Would I buy the Syma X5C
Yes definitely, Please read my detailed review below, also some videos from Youtube that shows a fix on remote antenna for more distance as out of the box you get around 50 meters according to Syma, which is ok, but I like tweaking a quad like this for fun. Realize any mods you do will void the warranty where you bought from, to be honest She flies well straight out of the box and I get over 70 meters.
I really like the Syma X5c as it does look good, in fact has a DJI Phantom look about it which I do have, but put it into the Pacific sea trying to show off- it happens.
November 28th Upgrade of review of the Syma X5c
I have flown the X5c for a few weeks now and all in all really impressed with the performance.
Good And Bad Points.
The Syma X5c arrives out of the box pretty well set up, the only things to do are to charge the battery with supplied usb charger and also to attach the flying guards which is easy as Syma supply a screw driver to do the job. You also get in the box spare set of blades and a usb micro card holder to load your videos to your computer.
To bind the quad to the remote (transmitter) first turn on remote then the SymaX5c you will see rapid lights under the quad, wait until they slow down, then push throttle up and back down again, a bleep will then sound telling you quad is armed and ready to fly. Photo below will show you flip button to do a complete flip of the quad, you need to push your right stick control to right or left just as you press flip button depending which way you want the quad to flip.
I found the controller a little budget but does the job ok. Click to enlarge.
The camera is ok bearing in mind the cost of the quad. I found the battery compartment under the camera a fiddle to open and a little weak connection pushing back in place after changing battery, there are two screws required if you desire to take the camera off the quad, I might try that and put my mobious camera there instead, might be to heavy. Flying time was decreased when the camera was on for complete flight.
The ability to change mode flying from high to low is a great option for a beginner. I find this a really stable quad considering there is no GPS, sure if you are going forward or sideways it will drift until you correct the movement on the rudder stick all non GPS quads do that.
I guess would like to have seen brushless motors, but hey we are looking at a quad for a price well under $65 . Parts seem cheap, check HERE
As for the battery which is a 3.7v 500mAh standard battery get around 7 minutes flying time without using the camera, drops to around 5 minutes if you have the camera on all the time flying. There are some upgrade batteries for 600mAh, but only found may be 2 minutes extra time use. I bought a good pack of four via Amazon including a pack to charge all at the same time via a usb port- link here to purchase pic below to show you
They are a bit fatter than original battery and I had to take off the cover plastic from the battery to fit into the X5c, bit of a pain, original battery has come down in price link here.
Round up on the Syma X5c
Yes to me 8 out of 10 buy it. As you know I do knock the bigger Syma helis but the X5C is fun, stable and great for a beginner to a fast flyer, next will try fpv on this bird, stay tuned in. I tried a mod on the camera as it points down a bit and thought better flat, however doing that caused the props to give a flicker effect in the sun to the camera, so not a great idea.
A few extra flying tips to mention.
You have the ability to change from Mode 1 to Mode 2 and back again, this does however still keep throttle on the left stick. To do this have the transmitter turned off, hold the tuner button found under the right stick to the right, push to the right and hold there then turn on the transmitter. Once it's turned on (it beeps) you will then see on the remote screen top left either Mode 2 or Mode 1 which ever you changed from on the screen.
Now what that does is .. throttle still the same but when you push the throttle to the left or right on mode 2 will yaw left or right and the right hand stick control will spin the quad, to me horrible as like to fly the X5c in mode 1 but at least you have the choice to change it and easy to test and turn mode back doing the same method above to suit the best mode for you. Also just a point the Syma remote is not like say a spektrum remote which mode 1 has throttle on the right and mode 2 throttle on the left, this is Syma's own remote and maybe the wording should be different. I lost my drone. Is there a way to know from the remote how far away the drone is? Is there a homing device or something? And the sad thing is that I got it yesterday!
Hi, sorry no homing device.Go to area you think lost in and just hit throttle up and down to see if you can hear motors run
Do i have to register it?
The X5C is under the weight no need to register
On the x5c-1 remote if you hold press and hold the top left button (the hi/low button) it beeps 8 time. If you do it again, you get a long loud beep. Does it do anything other that make these noises?
As photos show above that is the button to press when flying to change modes from low to high
Yes that is so but that is pressing and releasing the button normally and you get one beep. Also the display changes from lo to hi. This is different. The processor is doing something and signaling with a pattern of 8 beeps at about one second intervals the first time the button is pushed and one long beep after that and I see no obvious change on the display. Something is going on in the processors but I can find no documentation as to what.
My X5C gyroscope explorer 2.4g quadcopter. Blade will not move?? Help?
I had the same problem on the first one I purchased. It was a dead motor, which is why they sell replacements. I returned the whole unit and got a replacement.
It may also be a broken wire.
Do you know the weight of this drone?
That seems to be the issue after the FAA Press Release of Dec 14,2015
Under 200 grams
We are having trouble getting the mini card reader to setup on our computer. We have made sure the camera is working and the minicard is the in the camera and it appears it is taking pictures and videos ok. When we put the USB drive into the computer with the minicard inserted, it doesn’t setup the USB drive. Any thoughts?
Are you using the supplied minicard usb holder, there might me a problem with that, try a different usb holder, i have not had any problem with the one i got with the Syma X5, however yours could be faulty
I had used my quadcopter for 6 months.. then, suddenly, My x5c quadcopter would only lift on 1 side. I had a brand new back up and it will only do the same thing (only lift 1 side but will not get off the ground) I tried the other transmitter and both of the quadcopters will only lift on 1 side but will not take off/fly.
So, I have 2 (1 new and 1 old) doing the exact same thing. I’ve reset and still it only lifts on the 1 side and will not leave the ground.
Anyone know what to do?
Thank you
Is there an answer to this? Mine is doing the same thing though right out of the box. Just got it. Help. Thank you
Only two of the propellers on my drone are flyimg strong because only two are elevating and yhe otre two stay in place, they rotate and i thing they are strong but i dont know,i reset it already,, recalibrare it already and nothing happens stills the same. I think is the 360 eversion because when i throw it to the air and push the trothle up, it start flipping to the side the two propellers are pushing to. I meed help please
Are all motors working, have you had a bad crash? Sounds to mean there is a power problem to two of your motors that can be caused by a crash that if throttle not turned off props not able to turn will burn brushed motors out
I’m having trouble I crashed it into a tree and it got stuck but quickly was able to get it down but then I tried flying it the next day and it won’t lift off ground only one side seems to be lifting but then it will drag I tried reading some forums and thought it was the propellors so I did everything it said like realigning the gears but still no luck. Please help!!!
Hi Melissa,Have you checked the gears to make sure a tooth might be missing? There could also be dirt or grass in gear shaft. When you crashed you might have left the throttle on and if motor was say jammed on a twig in might have burnt out or on it’s way out as these are brush motors.
I’m not sure where they get the “50m range” from. I tested the range with a buddy by having him hold the quad while I walked to the end of his 500-foot driveway (152m) and the quad was still responding. Maybe they’ve beefed up the newer ones, I dunno. Just thought this might be helpful for anyone thinking of buying one.
Side note: This thing is great at free-falling. The downside of having wide plastic arms (as opposed to thin arms) is that it is not as good at countering high winds. The plus side of this is that if it drops, it tends to drop more slowly. Just a thought =)
I’m trying to switch from mode 1 to mode 2 I’ve followed the directions and watched YouTube videos and still nothing. You push the bottom button to the right and turn on controller got that, but when I do it it’s still stuck on mode 1. If there’s anyone that can help me out id appreciate it thanks. This is my first quad and I love it so far
Hi, I have tested the change a few times and works:To do this have the transmitter turned off, hold the tuner button found under the right stick to the right, push to the right and hold there then turn on the transmitter. Once it’s turned on (it beeps) you will then see on the remote screen top left either Mode 2 or Mode 1 which ever you changed from on the screen.Keep us posted.
It is possible to change the Syma control to mode 1 (throttle right) as I have done mine, but it involves De soldering the sticks off the board.
All you have to do to change from mode1 to mode2 is to HOLD the horizontal sliding switch under the right joystick to the right, then turn on the controller. The instruction book says “push” to the right, but they actually mean “hold” it to the right while you turn it on. No soldering required 🙂
Thank you for your post, helps everyone.
as they must charge the battery is inside the drone?
How long it takes for the first battery charge?
Is it possible to recharge the battery other than using a computer?.?.
Yes, try this link for a wall charger- Here
Sorry gave you incorrect link- try this link here
how can i flip this quadcopter?
is it is fpv?
what is the help of the lcd screen ?
how much money to buy its battery
Can i install another camera
how to flip the X5c is by using button on remote right side
You HOLD DOWN the button on the upper right of the controller while moving the right joystick to the right. The instructions always say to “push” a button when they actually mean to “hold down the button”.
So would this make an ok amateur Ariel videography quad?
Yes for the price a nice camera
What receiver is in this quad? Could I put a spektrum receiver in it (and use my spektrum radio) to get a LOT more range?
Also, it just can take a 450 mAh Li-Po? Cause If somebody spends a little money on a good battery and charger, the battery could be charged in less than 20 minutes. (Depending on battery and mad charge rate)
I think it could be done, but why bother the whole guts would need changing, better to buy a Blade Nano QX that is set up with spectrum receiver
I have the nano qx. I’m looking for an inexpensive quad for amateur Ariel videography. And by inexpensive I mean around $100 or less. This sells for $70 so that’s why I was looking at it. Are there any other camera quads out there around this price range that are better?
I purchased this for my sons birthday. Does it come with the protectors for the blades or do I have to purchase them separately?
Hi Victoria, yes the X5C comes with blade guards in the box, everything supplied, the only thing you will need are extra batteries as after flying your son will get fed up having to wait until battery recharged. I found some at Banggood that were cheap
Just ordered mine
Mode 1 in model flying means the throttle (up/down on a quadcopter)is on the right.
Mode 2 means the throttle is on the left. On the X5C this is not the case and is therefore incorrect!!
Edge, thank you for your comment, but actually on the Syma X5c the throttle stays always on the left, if you bought say a spektrum remote sure mode 1 has throttle on the right and mode2 on the left, I just rechecked the Syma X5c thinking I was wrong, Syma calls it mode 1 and mode 2 but it is their syle of remote
