The Syma S107 Review
Syma S107 - My Review
Welcome to My Madness on Indoor RC Helicopters.Especially Syma Helicopters
I started this hobby a few years ago, because I have always been fascinated in aviation. I found it was a fairly cheap hobby to get started in. I was not really wanting to build a model at that time, but to be able to buy a RC heli completed and ready to fly-Welcome the electric RC helicopter, especially the mini helicopters that you can fly at home. Syma helicopters are just the best mini rc heli to start out with.
After buying around 11 RC helicopters, smashing the hell out of them and rebuilding them time again with spare parts, I came across the SYMA S107 also known as Syma S107G.
My Syma S107 Review:
The Syma S107 is a coaxial helicopter, having two main rotors stacked on top of each other.
The picture below shows how these two rotors spin in the opposite direction of each other and thereby cancel out the reactive torque that is produced by each.
Having two rotors also produces a significant gyroscopic effect that further stabilizes the helicopter. This makes this style of helicopter extremely stable and great for a beginner starting in RC Helicopter flying.
The Syma 3 channel S107 mini helicopter comes in a variety of colors, including blue, red, and yellow. However due to being so popular not always able to get the color one wants. I now have a Syma107 in every color-(told you am heli crazy)
Inside the box you get the helicopter itself, sturdy and well made, a infra red remote control with 3 channels built in , so that more than one toy won’t interfere with the other.
Also included is the proprietary USB cable that allows the RC helicopter to be recharged in just around 30 mins or less, when you plug it into a PC. Tip: When usb yellow charge wire pluged into PC will show a red light, check the brightness. When you plug Syma heli to charge light goes out. Fully charged when red light comes up bright as before, faint flickering red light not fully charged so wait. Always wait 10-15 mins between flying before charging to let battery cool down, helps for longer battery life-hard to wait I know!
You can also charge it direct from the remote. The S107 has a built in rechargeable battery. The remote control itself takes 6 AA batteries, so you may need to buy some when giving the Syma as a present to someone else.
It is a Serious Toy for Adults and Kids.
The latest 2010 version by the famous SYMA Toy Company, equipped with a 4-in-1 infra-red receiver (Gyro, ESC, Mixer, Receiver). This palm size S107 Toy Helicopter (18.5cm long) comes with Aluminum Frame and a Great detail canopy, it doesn't look like a toy, but a very serious Helicopter. It is able to move in 3 Direction based on the 3 Channels, anyone can hover it easily. Since it is made with Aluminum Frame, very light weight and almost indestructible in any crash, perfect for very first time beginners. This helicopter is designed for anyone over 8 years old, flight time is around 5-8 minutes after 20-35 minutes charging by USB or Remote. It can fly in 6 directions. They are:
- Rotate Clockwsie / Anti-Clockwise
- Move Forward / Backward
- Move Up / Down
Flexible blades & balance bar-less damage on crashing.

Problems I Found With The Syma S107:
I have to say there were not many-However there are some fakes out there-things to look for is--
1: Correct to have a square type charge outlet on the Syma107 not round-from some forums seems to have a soldering problem. Some fake photos below of rotor fakes.
Fake
Fake Syma 107 Info As Below
The main blade holder of fake S107 is made of metal, the genuine one is plastic in pure black color. The main blade of the genuine Syma S107 have a few lines about the warning. However, the fake one only have the word “WARNING"- Something to check. I do own a clone-It still fly's well: Clones are different to fakes: READ POST
2: Out of the box the SymaS107 should fly with only minor trim alteration which is in the middle of your remote- start to throttle up-when flying and turning to left or right trim using the remote-should be one notch-If the SymaS107 spins like crazy after adjusting trim, something is wrong, do not take it apart -send it back-Hence I only buy from reputable dealers, like Amazon
3: Can be a problem binding the Syma to your remote - is easy to fix tho-Try this- Switch on the transmitter and place next to the S107. Switch on the S107 and stand in front of the transmitter till the flashing green light goes solid. You should now be ready to fly.
4: Because this is a stable heli, your crash rate should be low until you get cocky- good thing is parts are cheap to replace. (Spare Parts Syma S107)
5: Do not fly near digital TV or charge near one- watch out for very bright room lights,to me this is a indoor heli only and can not stand a breeze out side or a bright sunny day as the remote is infra red- If you want a heli to fly outside the SymaS107 in my opinion is not designed to do this - Having said that I do fly mine at night with no breeze on occasions. When flying inside try not to get to close to your ceiling as air turbulence will effect it and lose control-this happens with any indoor helicopter.Turn off fans and do not fly near air conditioners-Pretty obvious really.
6: It takes 20-35 minutes to charge the fitted battery- this can be a pain as you can not wait to fly this little bird more and more- To charge by remote takes longer and soon burns out your AA remote batteries - Use the USB supplied- hell quicker to charge.
7: Another tip: After a flight with any fixed battery helicopter a good idea is to let the battery cool down before you recharge-Reason being it will preserve the battery longer as they do get warm -That is why I have a few Syma helicopters being charged by my USB- So look for good deals to buy two-Only my view.
8: One small issue I had was flying backwards-The heli looses altitude and gets a little bogged down, it does go backwards but real slow. If you are looking for big flying speed backwards this heli might not be for you. I never fly backwards can not see the point prefer forward and spins. There is a modification on tail rotor. Did try it and yes makes a difference but burns up battery power if flying backwards all the time-Syma S107 left as it is to me just great. Want more from your heli buy a bigger more expensive one.
The Great Points:
Where to start: This is without doubt the best little mother heli I have owned-it is so stable. As soon as you stop going forward or back, she just hovers awaiting your next move-problem I found was I just got so cocky flying the bird that I started to dive bomb my dog who eventually won out by jumping from a chair and grabbing it in its mouth -Pain for both-The dog won, hence I bought two more Syma S107.
But from my heart this great helicopter at it's price that you should be able to buy for around $20- $25 shipped is the best value in life, and will give kids from 8 to a old fart like me at 60yrs old the greatest fun ever- I get excited every time this bird is charged and ready to fly- As I have 6 of them now my poor old computer is constantly charging my Syma 107. I am "Excited"
To be really honest I am amazed at the quality of the Syma S 107 for the price. I would have liked to see a better remote not being infra red and a bit more robust, however it does the job, and again for the price one can not really complain. Have seen replacement remotes for $11 should you break yours-not good idea to drop it on concrete floor!
I am working on some modifications with battery. I have one stripped to the bones at the moment as like a kid want to see how it works so well-you need a small screw driver set for this.
Screwdriver Set What I did was rub a magnet on the required screw driver to magnetize it so able to hold the very small screws to the screw driver, helps a lot.
Would I Buy The 107G Syma
100% Yes from me!
WHERE TO BUY THE SYMA S107 WITH SAFETY
Here are my trusted links below that I have personally bought from- I am always trying to find the best value, but also genuine Syma's sold with trust and back up to return if defective in anyway.
For Syma Helicopters:
I have purchased many RC Helicopters and Drones from Amazon - Yes good experience.. Just search on site for Syma, heaps to view.
I have posted a Syma S107 Spare parts page
All the Syma Helicopters That I have bought from Amazon have not been fakes also any problems Amazon have a return policy.
Yes you can buy cheap Syma S107 spare parts- View Here
I do not recommend buying from Ebay as there are too many fakes there, I found out myself buying 4 all fakes and never flew out of the box.

hola me compre un syma s 107 g azul se prende el control tambien pero vuela ayuuuuuuuuuda
Dante, yo tengo uno hace varios meses. podrias especificar mejor que le pasa al Tuyo?, depronto te podria ayudar.
Hello – Total novice here. Copters worked awesome out of box for one day and then the problem started. Rotors spin fine but shortly after lift off the blades seem to get tangled and it crashes. What’s causing blades to clip each other and is there an easy fix?
Thanks – Rich
One or both of the connect buckles probably came off the ball joint. Those are the little “bones” that hold the top rotor to the balance bar on top. They fit lightly on the ball joints, not pressed all the way over the ball joints.
I found that in the main shaft, there are 2 little pieces that jut out and were broken. I ordered a new main shaft and hope that you just pull out and push in the new one? Only way I figured it out was because I bought a new one and could see the difference. It was not visually noticeable.
My problem was the wings will move, but when trying to fly with any altitude will crash.
@Brian Here’s a video on replacing the shaft: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bHIV4xPKrI
It takes a certain touch. You will be pushing and pulling, and if you mix even a little bit of lateral force in, you’ll slightly bend the new shaft and get some vibration in flight (not fatal, but annoying.) If you’ve got steady hands you’ll be fine. Me, I’ve had mixed results. One time I was flying a heli I’d replaced the shaft on and the gear came flying off! So much for that flight. :-O
Got one for my daughter for Christmas, same problem, busted ‘nubs’ on the shaft causes blades to tangle. Gonna try exchanging it, but I can see this happening often with plastic parts. Do they make all metal replacement parts? Seems it would be worth any extra cost if they would have some extra strength.
Unless the shaft is bent, it is much easier just to remove the head from the new shaft (store it for later…might need it!) and install on existing shaft.
I bought several S107s for Christmas gifts, and had same problem with blades colliding after hard crashes. You need to replace the rotor head (shaft not needed). Loosen the opposing screws that hold the rotor head to the shaft and take it off, remove the flybar by taking out the long screw holding it to the head, remove the blades and reassemble all to the new head. Be sure to snug up all screws and make sure the notch in the shaft lines up with one of the screws holding the head on (or you’ll get TBE). The only problem I’ve had is I can’t fully tighten the long screw holding the flybar to the head without it binding. If I leave it out 1/8″ the flybar remains free and heli flys fine, it’s just annoying.
Hey i got one as a gift, great heli, charges in like 20 minutes, On the package it says “40-50 minutes” which makes no sense.
HAHA… today i was cleaning up and I accidentally shut the curtain on the charger… Its super cheap plastic, broke so easily… for those who don’t already broken their charger cord just wrap some clear tape around the usb part like I did and it should be fixed or A lot stronger.
Is there another Syma helicopter that can fly outside not just inside but that is not too expensive? It’s my first time buying a helicopter. I know nothing about them. I’m trying to buy it for my 9 yr olds and probably my husband too. Any advice?
The Syma S032 is good to fly outside(Look for Don Drapers post great advice)
You might want to consider getting some skill with an S107G or two before getting an S032G. The bigger the heli, the more it will get damaged in any crash. My advice would be to get good with the S107G and then try flying outside in very light wind. There are times, especially at night, when there isn’t much infrared and you can do that. Then you get the hang of flying in wind (none of the coax Symas can handle much wind.) After that, get a bigger one. I’ve got an S033G, the S107G’ss big, big brother and I’m really glad that I got good on the S107Gs first. Whenever you do get an outdoor one, remember not to point the antenna right at the heli. That works great for IR, but the radio wave radiates out in a donut from the antenna with the strongest part of the signal at 45 degrees from the antenna. I learned that the hard way; but the spare parts came in today from Hong Kong so all’s well.
Don that is so correct and very well explained-Again thank you for your time in helping people here, much appreciated!SF
Thanks so much!!! I will definitely try out first with the S107G. Thanks again!!!
Don, I got my SO33G in today and after unpacking i charged the battery while reading the broken english instuctions. I then placed a new set of batteries in it and then connected remote to system and then tried to idle up and check for spin.Checked out fine, but seemed like the blades were going to touch because of how close they were hanging from top rotors to bottom rotors. Sure as i had thought ,the blades hit each other just as i began to hover for first flight, breaking both top and bottom blades.I packed it up and U.P.S. will be returning it to Amazon.I was really upset cause i wanted to go outside this evening and fly it. Do you think i got a bad one or have you had any problems with yours? Any other advice will be helpful. My Syma SO31G Newest model with upgraded battery comes in tomorrow, any advice before i accept shipping or any tricks, flaws or anything for advice would be greatfully appreciated, thanks Darryl
@jagman256 Darryl, sounds like something was wrong. Haven’t had any trouble with mine except that I broke the landing gear when it came down hard once because I was pointing the antenna straight at it (don’t do that). The blades hang like they would crash until they start spinning, then no problem. One time I managed to get the blades to touch by cutting the throttle at altitude and then powering it back on on the way down. Even that didn’t break anything. Overall, I’ve had good luck with the S033G. Be careful about getting too high with it. TopToyExpress is the place to go for S033G parts. I haven’t tried the S031G yet. Make sure the antenna is all the way out and don’t point it right at the heli! Good luck.
Are they any other good Syma helicopters that last a little longer flying and that are not too expensive?
I am intrested in buying whosale for retail your line of helecoptors i all so like more info on parts and repair
i jejoy rebuilding them when they break and likr to knowif you have tec support
thank you dennis
Spare parts post hereI do not sell Syma helicopters myself, you could try Rcfever to buy in bulk
I just bought my first S107 today, but I decided I couldn’t wait for shipping through the mail. I bought it at the mall from a temporary RC place that goes away after the holidays. what propelled me (get it?) to buy from them was the fact that they had a white one with gold trim, which I did not see on amazon. First flight was awesome, so hopefully I don’t have the same issues as everyone else. my 1 year old loves things in the air, so it’s mainly for him (who am I kidding, it’s mainly for me too). I was curious if I could use rechargeable batteries in the remote, or if they have to be disposable. I don’t want to buy rech batteries if it doesn’t work, and I know the volts are different between the two types. anyone help?
The batteries in the remote last a long, long time as long as you don’t use the controller to recharge the heli. You’ll be doing really well if the heli lives anywhere near as long as the batteries!
Rechargeables work. If you get the 2300mAh NiMH ones they will certainly work fine; and they’re a good choice anyway.
-Don
The charging connector from the USB cable to the helicopter is not making very good connection. The red light inside the USB connector is flashing and the connector for the helicopter end falls out of the helicopter charging port. It feels very mushy when instered. It was not forced in. Just received this copter. Very stable platform. Tried moving the charging pins to tighten up the charging plug, but it continues to fall out. Should I send back to Amazon and see if they will send another?
Yes.
I just received two heli’s from Amazon…. one is lables S107, the other is a S107G. The ‘G’ box is bigger than the other, and the markings are different on the canopies… My question is: are there any other *significant* differences between these two models? Why the ‘G’ on one and no the other?
@Behr just to let you know have set up a chat program, join forum and then have a chat with guys that are machines better than me on explaining things-G seems to be more stable, but hey I have all-fakes clones, just love them all–do they fly ok?
Both are X-mas presents for 1) my 19 year old son, and 2)my 28 year old Son-in-law, so I haven’t flown either…. will probably buy one for myself after X-mas though…. they look like a lot of fun… Thanks for gettin back to me!
-Behr
So far as I know, S107Gs and S107s are the same except for the printing on the box. My S107Gs all say “S107” on the canopy. If they both have red circuit boards that say “S107R5”, they both have gyros. I’ve got boxes that said S107 and boxes that said S107G and never noticed any difference in the helis. Syma makes the same helis under different names, too. So check the circuit board. Never heard of a fake with that kind of circuit board; not that it might not happen some day.
I have the S032 and its a great heli, having lots of fun with it. I have been given another one but without the remote, how can i change my remote to receive the 27ghz on second heli, or do you need to get a complete new remote. many thanks.
My sons S107 has been working great but now the top blades only rotate and the bottom blades do not. The heli just spins counterclockwise and does not lift off. Can anyone help me please?
Have the same problem with lower blades, looked at gears and are fine, seems like the motor is faulty as it is not producing the same power as top blades (thats why it spins)and wont take off. Can only try to find another motor which will hopefully solve the problem. Has anyone else has this problem and solved it? thanks.
My copter was crashed and will hover slightly but when trying to take off with more altitude it will veer drastically downward and to the right and crash?
Any recommendations or how to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated!
Great site, thanks!
I think i figured it out:
There appears to be a screw that hold the top blades at a certain position parallel to the balance bar. It is keeping the blade a certain distance and without it the blade moves up and down and will not fly correctly.
I believe you just need to buy a new main shaft that has this little piece attached.
Hoping this is the solution.
You need a new Inner Shaft Axis (S107G-13. I had the same problem and took the top parts apart to find it.
PLEASE HELP ME AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MY CONTROLLER AND HELICOPTER WILL NOT CONNECT!!!!!!!:( I have tried EVERY ANGLE and i have left it on FOR MORE THAN 30 MIN Trying to connect it, but it WONT!!!! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!
My Heli will also not connect, very frustrating was sooo excited to have this thing i have tried every channel standing 5-10 ft back and nothing… need some ideas.
Put remote on flat surface on channel B,turn on remote put heli near remote then turn heli on wait until binds-let us know if binds-are batteries in remote new?
I have tried that… and I know the correct channel is “C” but, and i have tried EVERY ANGLE, but still NO CONNECTION:( I am getting tired of seeing this FLASHING LIGHT!!!!!!:( PLEASE GIVE MORE ADVICE IF YOU HAVE ANY!!!
While trying all of the above, have you tried the moving the left lever forward and back several times. I have found that works for me.
i tried having it flat… doesnt work… now what i notice with mine is when i turn the remote on regardless if the heli is on or off the remote blinks like twice then stays solid
Hey, Thanks for the help guys, but now my conroller wont even turn on:( I have put in new batteries and everything…. and I have even taken it apart and looked at the circut board. EMAIL: willandseanblog@yahoo.com
I just bought one and i was flying it and it crashed and i noticed two screws magnatized to the little cilindricial engine, i didnt know if these are extra screws that came with it and just got stuck to it or if they came off of something and where they might go back on. any help is greatly appriciated.
@Will You can order a new controller from Xheli for $7: http://www.xheli.com/s107.html Shipping is $4.95 with their “Spare parts express”. So with tax, it would be $12.56. Might want to get some other spare parts while the shipping is paid already. Blades if nothing else. The thing is, that’s gambling that the problem was the controller. Assuming you didn’t do anything that could have broken the controller, that’s a good bet. But, it’s still a bet. And since you get a controller with every heli we tend to collect the things. One or two extra controllers are good for trying the mods on, though. -Don
Aron, I’d say just save the screw and don’t worry about it till something goes amiss. -Don
My remote will connect when I hold it really close to it but if it gets more than 12 inches away it loose connection. Any suggestions?
Hi desperately need some help with my Syma S107. Has flown very well for a long time. Recently it started to not lift anymore, so I decided to replace the battery on it…but still no lift..It just hovers for a little and then starts to drop. I have check the gears, lubricated the main shaft a little, made sure everything is tight that should be tight etc. Could it be the motors that are a bit burned out? Please Help!
The S107 will not fly no matter what I charge it I replaced the batteries in my remote but it just will go to a hover and not a fly what do I do??
Hello, I have had large and micro helicopters. I just ordered an S107. The plus that I like is the gyro that it has installed I looke forward to receiving it. And hey, it’s good for you to be in your 60s and still have fun, continue to be a kid at heart.
A lot of us who like RC helis are older. Remember reading the RC aircraft magazines when we were kids, even though we could never afford them? Maybe we could build a balsa and tissue model with a rubber-band motor. Well, now they have much cooler (and affordable) RC aircraft, and us older folks can appreciate the more. Though some younger people certainly enjoy them as well.
@Don so true,I am in my late 50’s and more of a machine now in helis and planes, because they are more affordable and great to fly-was always my dream as a kid,but could never afford nitro planes-welcome the new world of electric motors-imagining just for a moment having a Syma S107 20 years ago!! God bless technology-I am a happy old kid-again thank you for your input-SF
HELP ME PLEASE!!!!
I just got this helicopter, and it wont fly, I charged it, and the lights and everything work, but I tried every channel but the remote wont seem to work, the green light still flashes and the helicopter wont take off.. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!
Thanks, Will
@Will, see Daniel’s Nov 29 post below, and the replies.
THANK YOU SO MUCH DON!!!!!! I am now extremely happy with this helicopter…. THANK YOU TO ALL WHO SAID WHAT TO DO!!!!!
Hey Don, it did work the first time i did that, but now it wont:/ WHAT DO I DO????
Hi, i have had an s107 for two weeks now, tried it earlier and it took off, did a weird circular wobble and then nosedived! I have tried a few times to take off, making sure the trim wasn’t out. The heli either nose dives or the rotors clash mid-air and it falls to the ground. The blades are un-damaged. What should I try? Thanks
I’m having the same problem Jacob describes.
My S107 has flow well for several weeks. After last weekend, however, I get the circular wobble and crash effect. Please help! Thank you.
ETA: I checked the connect buckles — they’re both in place and not broken. I replaced the rotor blades, as the originals were a little banged up. Still no fix.
The problem is in the Main Shaft. I actually had the same problem today and so did my roommate. All in the sameday. Who would have though.
I have that problem too. It hovers up a little bit then the wings hit eachother or something and it falls down. What can I do to fix it?
Make sure the blade grip screws and the screws which pin the upper assembly to the shaft are torqued OK. Make sure the connect buckles aren’t all the way over the ball ends. The flybar should rock with a very light touch. I’ve badly messed up shafts a few times. The heli gets a bad case of the shakes but flies OK. If it’s getting toilet bowl effect (TBE) where it wobbles around in a way that reminds you of swirling water in a toilet, it almost has to be something with the upper assembly. But, these things are full of surprise. Please post if you find the solution.
I have checked everything! Nothing seems wrong whatsoever :s I think you could possibly call it the TBE… but one very severe one that causes it to fall from the air.
@Jacob, really sounds like TBE and that’s almost exclusively caused by an issue around the flybar, connect buckles, upper blade grip assembly or flybar. Something up top there. Google on TBE and Syma S107 or see many previous threads. Make sure connect buckles (little bones) just sit on the ball joints.
does it still have a wobble effect if you hold it in your hand while full throttle? that might tell you where the problem is
Hello,
I just got my S107 yesterday and have loved it. I had some minor crashes but have had experience with similar helis before and do not bang it around too much. It went down today and will no longer function. The lights in front come on when I power on but the blades will not spin. There is a green light on the rear left of the circuit board that started to blink and continues to as long as the power is still on. How can I get my S107 up and running again?
@Daniel The green light blinks until the heli binds (connects) to the controller, then it glows solid green. If it doesn’t stop blinking, it’s not connecting. Be sure that the A-B-C switch near the top of the controller is solidly to the A or C side. There is no such thing as B, B is bogus, it’s a two-way switch. Also, make sure the controller is 3-4 feet away from the heli. Sometimes it doesn’t connect until I back off; no idea why. Hope this helps; bummer if it’s the circuit board. I’ve had plenty of gnarly crashes from as high as 50 feet (outdoors) and never broken one of those yet.
Thanks @DonDraper for the help! There were some issues with the remote connecting but have been solved now. Thanks again. fly on!
@Daniel No problem. Just what issues and how did you fix them?
@Don,wanted to thank you for your help with questions asked, really great input much appreciated, and also to all that post comments thank you.
i just bought this hlicopter its great works fine when i plugged it to my romote first time the light was yellow then turned red when fully charged like stated it would in the insructions but now its blinking yellow and red when on charge what does this mean i still leave it for a while it is charging and working ust weird why it started blinking? any answers?
My son really wants one of these helicopters. I know many of you say it is easy to fly….do you think a six years old would be capable?
On the box, it states for ages 14+ . But its a toy, so if you don’t mind the helicopter crashing into things, I guess it would be okay.
My 6 YO can fly it with ease… I would make sure that you kid is wearing safety glasses (or sun glasses), as mine almost took out his eye.
I have a 6 year old and CAN’T imagine them being able to fly it.
I would guess that it would be crashed and broken within 3 charges.
Hey love the s107 just a hint for new owners if you take the rear tail by the back rotor off the lack of weight will cause the heli to creep forward ever so slightly and make it easier to control till you get the hang of flying .
I contacted Amazon and explained that I received a counterfeit S107. The CS agent told me that I would have to send it back and place a new order but was not able to guarantee I would receive a genuine product. BTW, this S107 I purchased was sold and shipped by Amazon. I tried looking for the seller “superstition hobbies’ but could not find it on the list.
@Micker : I now sympathize with you much more. I would send it back to Amazon. They will pay for return shipping. The only reason I didn’t send mine back is because it works (its a fake but works).
@Salman Xheli is there. And Battery Superstore has the yellow ones. I’ve bought from them several times.
@Salman Can you get a refund and use Xheli or Battery SS? If they order another from the same vendor you’ll almost certainly get another fake. It’s not as if a few fakes show up in a pallet of real ones. Out of curiousity, did you check the circuit board? What did it say?
@DDraper: So ‘Battery Superstore’ and ‘Xheli’ sell genuine products? I will keep them in mind the next time I order. I checked the circuit board and there are none of those markings you mentioned.
@Salmon I’ve always gotten genuine products from them. And Superstition hobbies. Xheli and RCFever are both well-known RC Aircraft sellers and pretty safe bets. But I haven’t seen RCFever on Amazon; only Xheli. Funny thing is, I’ve never bought a fake or even found one yet. The “fakes” I’ve seen at stores all turned out to be re-branded real Symas! But you definitely got a fake. If you like them you’ll want to get more than one. They take a long time to charge and they break now and then. (I myself keep four charged, spare parts helis, spare parts and usually a few new ones in boxes under the bed. ;->)
@DDraper : Thank you for those tips. I will order from those sellers when I decide to buy another one.
Hi heli nuts! I got two of these birds, but have crashed both choppers into things. I stopped the power because I saw I was going to crash (air swirl from flight of stairs) Anyway, both blades still spin, as does the balance bar. Although now the chopper swerves from left to right and eventually crashes. Both of them do! I’ve checked the gears, blades etc. No visible signs. What can I do to fix them both? Thanks a heap! Love the site.
Check both little “bones” that attach the flybar to the top blade pivots. Read this: http://www.squidoo.com/toilet-bowl-effect-syma-s107-heli And make sure the screws up there aren’t loose. That top assembly is easy to tweak. Fortunately, usually easy to fix. This doesn’t sound too serious. If it has plenty of power but “goes crazy”, it’s something it that top assembly. Maybe just *lightly* slipping bones (Syma S107-04 Connect Buckles) back onto the little ball joints. They kind of “sit on” the ball joints, don’t push past them. Good luck.
You need a new 1× Inner Shaft Axis (S107G-13). I had the same problem and took the top parts apart to find it
@Micker
I just purchased my first Syma 107 from Amazon. I did receive a genuine product and it does fly as stated.
I purchased the yellow 107 and paid $19.17.
Update:
After doing some more research, it turns out the S107 I got from Amazon is not the real thing. The led on the circuit board glows red, the led on the remote glows red, and the battery caps are red and green.
However, the WARNING does have text afterwards on the blades. It does fly and charges with the USB (I have not tried charging with the remote).
Here is my question: Should I contact Amazon and get a replacement even though it works?
@Salman Use a flashlight to read the left top edge of the circuit board, right under the main gear. The board should be red and it should say:
S107R5
SMLB4
In white letters. If it has this circuit board, and mostly matches SymaFreaks checks above except for the box and the plastic cosmetics, it’s very likely a “good clone”, made by Syma. There seem to be a lot of those. If so, no reason not to keep it. If not, it’s up to you. If you send back a bad clone, you’ll help discourage them.
Bought two (for my kids for Christmas) that arrived today. So far, I am finding it to be a piece of crap. I have tried charging it a half dozen times with the same result (until the last time). Each time, the blades would spin for a few seconds, then die. The last attempt I got absolutely NOTHING! Not even the lights on the helicoptor turned on. I am hoping the first one is just a defective unit. I will try the second to see but I am not holding out any great expectations. So glad I decided to test these things before Christmas. Giving your kids garbage for Chrisymas is a real downer.
I guess this toy is aptly named, Syma (pronounced SEEM-AH), because it seema like the toy from h3ll. Believing that the first one was possibly defective, I gave the second one a shot. After placing it on the computer charge for an hour and a half, I noticed that the red light never went on. I figured that a 90 minute charge should be enough to at least try it out. As with the first one, when I turned it on to give it a go, it spun its blades for a few seconds then stopped. What happened next was unbelievable. I decided to put it back on the charge and in the “off” position the blades started turning (by now I had the controller turned off). When I switched it it “on” the bladdes stopped but the charged light came on. When I turneed it back off, the charge light went off and blades started turning again. It looks as though Amazon will be getting my first returned purchase ever. This thing should be sent back to the inferno from whence it came.
@Micker If the Syma helis were all garbage guess they would not sell thousands a month on Amazon-rather than bag the heli let us find the problem, are they fakes or is there somec harging problem, for instance if charging by usb and light stays on it is fully charged, leave it on you can discharge the small lipo battery never to be recharged.who was the seller on Amnazon?bit by bit give us all the chance to help here
@Micker, The S107s are great, it’s unreal what you get for the money. But the QA is imperfect. Some have problems and a few are outright lemons. If you buy from Amazon or a decent dealer you can just return any bad ones. There really aren’t very many. I’ve bought about 20 and only one was downright bad (my first one!) I would recommend returning both and getting two more from a different source. I’ve had good luck with Battery Superstore, A-Xheli and Superstition Hobbies (all through Amazon.) And Xheli direct. RCFever is good. Don’t give up on these, you’ll like them! Everybody does. But *do* test them before you give them to the kids, and a couple of extra around doesn’t hurt. The dark side to a ridiculously great heli for the money is spotty QC. That’s life. But the great majority are fine.
@Syma Freak…I purposely bought these directly from Amazon in hopes of avoiding any issues with the fakes. I amy not be an electrical engineer but I think I have the intelligence to plug one end of a wire into my computer and the other into a pint sized helicopter. I have also mastered the ability to properly install AA batteries into a controller. I have never flown an RC helicopter but thanks to my experience with this one, I may never know if I can.
If it had been just one of the helicopters that had the problem I could imagine that I had just gotten one that slipped through QC. To get two out of two that didn’t work would point to a problem much larger than a simple QC oversight. I am not convinced that ordering another of these would result in anything but a duplication of my disappointment, frustration, and feeling I was being ripped off.
Is there ANYTHING that I could have overlooked? Is there any secret trick with these things to get the blades to spin fast enough and long enough to get them off the ground? Do I need to lock myself in a lead-lined vault in order to give these things a proper charge?
I would be more than happy to try these things if they were offered on a “pay ONLY after you have tried them and are satisfied” basis. Aside from that, I will need some real convincing to buy another with only the hassle of sending it back if it doesn’t work.
I can say that Amazon has been good about discussing the problem and reacting to it for remediation. I have suspended my purchases on Amazon until such time that I receive proper credit for the return of the item. Buying time for Christmas is getting short so I hope that they don’t take too long.
Micker, also got you personal email.Like others,Don Draper,Tony,we are all upset with your experience, sure I bought 3 from Ebay all rejects hardly flew-this is when I bought a genuine Syma and started this blog-no not to earn dollars but to help and guide people to a fun heli for a small price, that is why your comments are posted good and bad as helps all.My advice is to stay with Amazon to get a return, did you buy both from the same Amazon seller? Yes I am building a post to shame shonky sellers on Amazon, one has to be sure before I post that.Already have had emails from some strange places saying to sell the blog to them or we will get you shut down-guess hurting some bad selling guys out there. As soon as there is a great fast selling product on Amazon the mongrels come on board to stick sh– up you.If I was wealthy would send all a genuine Syma 107-but that is just a dream unfortunately-I and all of us want you to get a genuine Syma,I have just bought 3 more from Rcfever to give for xmas- more expensive than Amazon, but past ones have all been genuine.Last week as I do in Aussie(Sydney) went out to $2 shops and a market store near the Sydney wharf- There was so many fakes, yellow remotes, black Syma’s,so gave the seller a hard time as he was flying under a tent, infra red,as you know, however he was flying a bloody genuine Syma 107,I lost the plot and caused some what of a problem-as people were buying,I said you are paying $50 au for a dud-Anyway this is not helping your problem-let us all know when you get refund or new helis-SF
@Micker forgot to say, when you get guys like Dale a old dude like me doing mods and stuff on his symas,he is also a engineer and sent some to USA troops you can see this is not just a toy
link to some of his mods-Dale Not trying to get you to buy more far from that-just hope we can all get to buying a genuine
heli,I know you will love them then-Take care SF
Well all I can say is I own 3 and they are fine. My boy has one, my grandson has one and all are fine. They are very popular in the RC heli world. Almost everyone in the RC heli forum I belong have at least oen if not more and no huge issues. Not sure your problem and feel bad for you, but overall they are great little heli’s. I’ve always dealt with ThinkRC.com and they are great folks and stand behind their products. They are in Los Angeles.
@Micker Relax, my friend! We on your side. *We* didn’t sell you the bad helis. We’re just good guys trying help you out. And look, you can only expect just so much from middle-aged grown men who are crazy about $20 toy helicopters. 🙂 Think about it. I don’t think you need to suspend your purchases on Amazon. They’re very good. My suggestion is still to get a couple more from one of the specific sources we mention (you can go through Amazon, put handpick one of those). Then you’ll either have two good helis or a Sign from God to give up on them. Don’t waste any more time and frustration on the ones you have. They sound like two peas from the same rotten pod.
I know this is overly simplistic but the helli needs to be off to charge.
Make sure it is plugged in on both ends right. If it doesn’t work on one usb try another usb port. If that fails try charging from the controller.
I know, what you are thinking but too many times other intelligent people make this mistake. I know an electronics tech with over 30 year experience that never thought to turn it off to charge.
I have bought 2 s-107’s and 2 s-031’s from various online vendors and they all work fine.
Biggest problem is getting my son to stop breaking them 2 weeks after I fix them. His best one is getting one stuck in a tree 30 ft in the air.
Black Friday “deals”…really? I was really excited about giving these to my kids for Christmas. Now I feel this was just not meant to be. The two S107G’s that I initially purchased were duds. When I bought them (directly from Amazon) the price was $19.17 ea. It seemed like a good deal even if they didn’t quite live up to expectations. Not working at all left me feeling that I was either too stupid to charge a toy or that I was duped. Reassurances from the good people here gave me a change of heart and convinced me to give them another try. That is where I ran into the real deal breaker. I pulled up the same helicopter to place my order on Amazon. The price had now increased to $22.94 (on “Black Friday”). It’s only three dollars and change more and it still may be a good deal but a 20% increase in price just made me ill. The price on the other models has also gone up on Amazon.
Someone must have been trying to tell me something. For all of you RCheli enthusiasts I hope you all have better luck than me and enjoy those fun looing little toys. I think this experience may keep me out of the RC world forever.
Thanks for all your help.
@Micker You’ve got a point, there. RC aircraft probably aren’t for you. Even our “trusty” S107’s are complex little “birds” and some amount of patience and willing to tinker is required. If not when you get them, then when you break them, which will certainly happen sometime. If you saw what was involved with the more expensive helis your head would spin! If the hassles you’ve run into (which are *tiny* by RC aircraft norms; trust me on that) have bummed you out so much, trying something else would make a lot of sense. A lot of people eventually get burned out from the hassles involved with RC helis. But usually it’s more like “I’m tired of every crash costing me $500 and 30 hours of rebuilding, and I’m tired of my living room and kitchen being a big helicopter workshop!” ;->
@Don…I am not afraid to tinker with toys when they break but these didn’t work from the get go. It was a matter of insult to injury when Amazon put a 20% increase in the price on the very day that you expect the best deals. They always had a $129.99 price posted as the “list price.” I understand the marketing angle of letting people think they are getting a deal by inflating the “regular” selling price but to increase their selling price on Black Friday is more than a little deceptive.
OH GOOD LORD! I just took a peek at Amazon and found that they have added another $2.01 to the price. They are now 30% higher in price just one day later.
@Micker That $129.99 list price is a complete fiction. You can get a Blade MCX2 RTF for $119.99! These are popular toys. It’s common for popular toys to go up in price before Christmas. A year ago I couldn’t find a $60 retail Hasbro Laser Tag set for much under $250 online (so I got S107s instead!) Another thing I’ve noticed is that they crank up production and the quality goes down. The quality of these helis varies considerably from run to run. When I order some and they’re especially good I’ll sometimes order 4 or 5 more from the same source, in the same color(s), right away. I’d bet you money that the quality control stickers come from the same planet as the $129.99 list price. I’ve seen these sell new from Xheli for $15! They can’t get much more than $5 at the factory. Doesn’t allow for much of a QC budget, does it? -Don
did you charge it with the usb cord and did you charge it with it off it is a great toy when its working properly
how about if the top blades wont turn at all? the screws are tight on the flat portion of the shaft but nothing is rotating?
Then most likely the lower gear that drives that shaft is not secure or you have a bad motor…Both motors running? If so you have an issue with the lower gear “I believe”.
There is no doubt this hobby can get expensive. I to would suggest going the route of the SYMA S107 and the Syma S107G for beginners.
Rob
My Syma flew great out of the box, but now is maintaining a forward position but swirling around?? Can I fix this?
Sounds like TBE (Toilet Bowl Effect). Check these out:
Fixing TBE: http://www.squido.com/toilet-bowl-effect-syma-107-helicopter
Another good site – great explanation of coaxial helis and the flybar: http://www.rchelicopterfun.com/toilet-bowl-effect.html
How to charge the heli? I plugged the cord into the usb and into the heli. The light on the usb cord goes off when I plug it in. I am not sure if I am suppose to turn the power on or off on the heli? Thanks for your help.
When you charge using the USB port the heli must me turned off as well as the transmitter. When you plug in the USB the light goes off and once the heli is fully charged the light will come back on and you’re ready to fly…..
Hello guys, I really need your support.
I got the heli a week ago my cat broke two blade during fly (one upper and one lower). I got spare blades but after the replacement the heli won’t fly. the blades seems to be rotating ok but won’t fly and also there is a strange noise.
Can you please help me with this?
sounds to me like it also jarred the gears and busted a few teeth…
just like my pap’s stupid haybine…
(gawd, we really need to take the cutting torch to that peice of crap!!!)
When doing the tail rotor flip mod…Theres a hole in the bottom of the tail boom to screw the tail rotor/motor assembly into. If you flip it, guess what? No hole on top! Those who’ve done this mod, do you drill a new hole in top of boom? Do you just screw the screw in to put pressure on the boom (I can’t get hardly ANY pressure this way since the plastic threads just let the screw turn whilst not enough pressure is on the boom to hold in place). OR, do you flip the entire boom over?
Hi Tony,
Great pieces of advice. I got this for my daughter, but we’re stuck at the very outset. Initially the little green LED inside the heli was blinking, but now it is solid, meaning I should be good to fly. The problem is I still can’t bind the heli to the remote. I’m upping the throttle, but absolutely no response from the heli. It is fully charged (i.e. the red LED on the USB cable turned back on). I initially tried in the TV room, but then moved up to my son’s room to avoid IR interference, but still no luck.
Hi – my son got a S107G Metal Series. When he starts flying it the top 2 rotors do fine. However, when he increases the spead the top 2 rotors start to loose balance and hit the bottom two rotors. What can we do? At first sight the screws seem fine.
Hey all,
Have just bought an S107, flew it for a bit, and crashed a few times.
Now the blades are hitting so i’m not able to lift off for more than a few seconds.
any ideas as to what is causing this? there doesn’t seem to be anything broken, and all motors appear to be functioning correctly…
ok, so i got my syma, and had a crash…
now, whenever i try to fly it, the main blades tilt and the whole thing tilts backwards until the blades clash together, and it drops out of the air…
what could be causing this? will wieghting the front end possibly rectify the problem?
Please help me, i only got about 30 seconds flying time 🙁
@warchildoo Thanks! I checked the main rotary shaft and the piece that connects the top blades to the shaft was broken on both sides making the blades move too much. I ordered a replacement shaft for $4 on Amazon. Thanks again!
Mike
Hello,
I bought two S107 helicopter. For first few days both worked fine. But now one of them is not flying up. The blades are rotating but I hear some sound. One of the upper blade is slightly damaged ( very slightly ) .Can that be the issue? The help is not spinng. When I hold it in the air and give full power and then release it, it slowly comes down.
Any idea??
Check the 2 small screws at the head (top rotor blades) and be sure they are tight and the screw on one side is against the flat part on the inner shaft. Also make sure there is NO (or very little, very tiny) bit of slop in up and down movement of the inner shaft. This is a common thing in most cases. The upper blades are turning, but not fast enough. They are most likely spinning on the shaft. The 2 screws are located on each side just below the fly bar. One tightens against the flat spot on shaft the other simply against the shaft. You’have to loosen them a bit and pull the upper part off to line up and insure screw alignment with flat spot on shaft. Pretty easy actually. I “believe” this will cure your problem.
As far as blade damage these things will fly with minimal damage however depending on how “little” you mean. If too much it will cause vibrations, but would still lift off.
hey just wondering about the blade damage i have a s107 that was crashed a few times and it flies all over the place and swirps and dips and eventually crashes. i have maybe 4 or 5 tiny nicks on each blade where the tops and bottoms have clashed could this be the problem i only had about 10min of flight time after 1 day.
Experience with the machine so far – 3 users, many crashes in over 300mins of flight time (that’s a lot of charge cycles…)
The tail rotor is most vulnerable (x3)
The plastic lugs on the main shaft locating the top rotor blade grip
are second most likely to break (x2) If one of these is broken, the
machine will wobble in circles in hover. When both are broken, the machine is unflyable – blade clash. Get a new inner/main shaft, remove the top assembly & put it on the old shaft.
Both these items can be had for a fraction of the per-item retail cost if purchased on-line from HongKong.
Hi,
I bought mine about a week back. It was working fine until today. The upper main blades are kind of dangling an now my heli is no longer stable. While running, the upper blades make contact with the ones below and it crashes toi the ground. There seems to be no damage outside. Please help.
Harris
Harris, it sounds as if your upper blades are not turning?
@Tony great comment explained fix better than me-Thank you for input
Hi again,
I realized now that the fly bar has broken off from the inner shaft. This is causing the upper blades to dangle and thats why the heli crashes to the ground. Do you get spare parts in India?? If so please tell me where.
Thanks!!
Here ya go Harris….
http://www.thinkrc.com/syma-parts-syma-s107-metal-series-gyro-c-9_83_60.html
my syma s107g just crashed into the ceeing and now it wont work.
the little green that shows its connected to the controller stays green but when you try to throttle up it thwitches then the light starts flashing.also it wont charge.
can this be fixed????
Symma seems to have left out an important spare part. on one of my Syma S107’s the yellow one I lost a tail stabilizer bar where it connects to tail boom and lower body with a screw. New shafts are available however the part the shaft rests in and screws to lower body is not. Seems odd they would leave this part off the list? Syma Freak, Anyone?.
hay got my s107g about an hour ago and ive given it a spin or 2 and its great love it 🙂 , but noticed it seems to be drawing large circle as it fly’s its OK but i Havant seen any others do this. is there is a fix ?
@Josh have you trimmed the heli on the remote controller, turn round knob in middle of remote until stops spinning-let us know if helps
I think you’ve probably checked your trim right? Also check the 2 small screws at the head (top rotor blades) and be sure they are tight and the screw on one side is against the flat part on the shaft. Also make sure there is NO (or very little, very tiny) bit of slop in up and down movement of the inner shaft. While you are at please go thru all the screws and make sure they are snug. Don’t over tighten. this should be routine maintenance on the !-107’s.
I got my S107 Helicopter about 7 or so months ago. It flew great and i crashed it a couple times. But after the third or so crash, the tail rotor stopped working and hasn’t worked since. The rest of the helicopter works fine. Is this an easy fix?
yep. Luckily, all spares are really cheap. Buy a new tail motor (off ebay for a few quid) and then its relatively easy to replace things. If that doesnt fix it, check all the connections on the PCB, if thats dodgy, replace that too. Its not going to be expensive, Ive practically broken all the parts to my S032.
I need help again do you turn it the heli on or off for charging?
Heli is OFF during charge 😉
@Tony just wanted to say thank you for your input-keep it coming,it helps all to learn about the Syma helis-Good on you
I just got a Syma S107G and had a mild crash and now when I try to take off it starts wobbling and falls over and crashes. Any ideas of why it might be doing this?
I’d be happy to pack my copter up and send it to one of you guys to fix. Does anybody do that? burnshaw@timberframe1.com
@Greg-There are people that might do that, however mate you need to expand your knowledge on rc helis and have a go at repairing your heli yourself, the reason I say that is you are already hooked on helis, the next step on this hobby is knowledge that to me only comes by trying to repair any rc product by your own hand.
That in it’s self is a learning curve, you will make mistakes, but that is part of the fun of it all-A few years ago knew zero-now every day I still learn. I fly planes as well, for the first 6 months crashed every day, then just like a touch from heaven, flew one for 10 minutes not crashing-the world changed-We will all help you here, explain your problems and fears of fixing your heli
Mike, I have noticed a mechanical failure of the main rotor assembly on my heli… Specifically one or both of the attachment points which allow the upper set of blades to rotate with the counterweight have been sheared off in a collision. The whole assembly can be easily gotten on amazon.com for a couple dollars.
Hello, my buddy and I bought a couple of these today but we can not locate the a b switch on copter so we fly togather. Where is it located? Thank you
There isn’t one. Turn on the remote and set A or B, then power up your syma. When it binds to the remote it pulls whatever your controller is set to and locks into that. No need to change anything on the copter itself.
I have a couple S107G’s and one started acting up. It would only fly a short while before it didn’t have enough rpm’s to stay aloft. The battery would run strong for the expected amount of time but the copter wouldn’t fly.
It sounded a bit rougher than the other one. Looking it over, I found a gear with some binding. The large gear between the front motor and the lower blade shaft gear had moved up slightly, creating friction between it and the large upper blade shaft gear. It was easy to move the gear down the shaft with a small straight blade screwdriver and all is good. 🙂
I have got to say that the syma s107g is a tough cookie me and my daughter have never flown one before but this is amazing ,it,s been smashed into lights walls table,s doors and still comes back for more, for the price it is brilliant.
took us about four goes to get the knack
i would recommend.
mart
@Mart -once you get the technique you are then fully hooked, they will take some hard crashes, any problems post or email me-Enjoy
syma freak
i have also purchased a king go but the stability on it is really weird ,the trim is at the top of the remote either side, you can get it right but you have to keep correcting it all the time (i mean all the time)
any suggestions its driving me mad
batteries fully charged every thing is fine but it wont fly right HELP PLEASE
mart
