The Syma S107 Review
Syma S107 - My Review
Welcome to My Madness on Indoor RC Helicopters.Especially Syma Helicopters
I started this hobby a few years ago, because I have always been fascinated in aviation. I found it was a fairly cheap hobby to get started in. I was not really wanting to build a model at that time, but to be able to buy a RC heli completed and ready to fly-Welcome the electric RC helicopter, especially the mini helicopters that you can fly at home. Syma helicopters are just the best mini rc heli to start out with.
After buying around 11 RC helicopters, smashing the hell out of them and rebuilding them time again with spare parts, I came across the SYMA S107 also known as Syma S107G.
My Syma S107 Review:
The Syma S107 is a coaxial helicopter, having two main rotors stacked on top of each other.
The picture below shows how these two rotors spin in the opposite direction of each other and thereby cancel out the reactive torque that is produced by each.
Having two rotors also produces a significant gyroscopic effect that further stabilizes the helicopter. This makes this style of helicopter extremely stable and great for a beginner starting in RC Helicopter flying.
The Syma 3 channel S107 mini helicopter comes in a variety of colors, including blue, red, and yellow. However due to being so popular not always able to get the color one wants. I now have a Syma107 in every color-(told you am heli crazy)
Inside the box you get the helicopter itself, sturdy and well made, a infra red remote control with 3 channels built in , so that more than one toy won’t interfere with the other.
Also included is the proprietary USB cable that allows the RC helicopter to be recharged in just around 30 mins or less, when you plug it into a PC. Tip: When usb yellow charge wire pluged into PC will show a red light, check the brightness. When you plug Syma heli to charge light goes out. Fully charged when red light comes up bright as before, faint flickering red light not fully charged so wait. Always wait 10-15 mins between flying before charging to let battery cool down, helps for longer battery life-hard to wait I know!
You can also charge it direct from the remote. The S107 has a built in rechargeable battery. The remote control itself takes 6 AA batteries, so you may need to buy some when giving the Syma as a present to someone else.
It is a Serious Toy for Adults and Kids.
The latest 2010 version by the famous SYMA Toy Company, equipped with a 4-in-1 infra-red receiver (Gyro, ESC, Mixer, Receiver). This palm size S107 Toy Helicopter (18.5cm long) comes with Aluminum Frame and a Great detail canopy, it doesn't look like a toy, but a very serious Helicopter. It is able to move in 3 Direction based on the 3 Channels, anyone can hover it easily. Since it is made with Aluminum Frame, very light weight and almost indestructible in any crash, perfect for very first time beginners. This helicopter is designed for anyone over 8 years old, flight time is around 5-8 minutes after 20-35 minutes charging by USB or Remote. It can fly in 6 directions. They are:
- Rotate Clockwsie / Anti-Clockwise
- Move Forward / Backward
- Move Up / Down
Flexible blades & balance bar-less damage on crashing.

Problems I Found With The Syma S107:
I have to say there were not many-However there are some fakes out there-things to look for is--
1: Correct to have a square type charge outlet on the Syma107 not round-from some forums seems to have a soldering problem. Some fake photos below of rotor fakes.
Fake
Fake Syma 107 Info As Below
The main blade holder of fake S107 is made of metal, the genuine one is plastic in pure black color. The main blade of the genuine Syma S107 have a few lines about the warning. However, the fake one only have the word “WARNING"- Something to check. I do own a clone-It still fly's well: Clones are different to fakes: READ POST
2: Out of the box the SymaS107 should fly with only minor trim alteration which is in the middle of your remote- start to throttle up-when flying and turning to left or right trim using the remote-should be one notch-If the SymaS107 spins like crazy after adjusting trim, something is wrong, do not take it apart -send it back-Hence I only buy from reputable dealers, like Amazon
3: Can be a problem binding the Syma to your remote - is easy to fix tho-Try this- Switch on the transmitter and place next to the S107. Switch on the S107 and stand in front of the transmitter till the flashing green light goes solid. You should now be ready to fly.
4: Because this is a stable heli, your crash rate should be low until you get cocky- good thing is parts are cheap to replace. (Spare Parts Syma S107)
5: Do not fly near digital TV or charge near one- watch out for very bright room lights,to me this is a indoor heli only and can not stand a breeze out side or a bright sunny day as the remote is infra red- If you want a heli to fly outside the SymaS107 in my opinion is not designed to do this - Having said that I do fly mine at night with no breeze on occasions. When flying inside try not to get to close to your ceiling as air turbulence will effect it and lose control-this happens with any indoor helicopter.Turn off fans and do not fly near air conditioners-Pretty obvious really.
6: It takes 20-35 minutes to charge the fitted battery- this can be a pain as you can not wait to fly this little bird more and more- To charge by remote takes longer and soon burns out your AA remote batteries - Use the USB supplied- hell quicker to charge.
7: Another tip: After a flight with any fixed battery helicopter a good idea is to let the battery cool down before you recharge-Reason being it will preserve the battery longer as they do get warm -That is why I have a few Syma helicopters being charged by my USB- So look for good deals to buy two-Only my view.
8: One small issue I had was flying backwards-The heli looses altitude and gets a little bogged down, it does go backwards but real slow. If you are looking for big flying speed backwards this heli might not be for you. I never fly backwards can not see the point prefer forward and spins. There is a modification on tail rotor. Did try it and yes makes a difference but burns up battery power if flying backwards all the time-Syma S107 left as it is to me just great. Want more from your heli buy a bigger more expensive one.
The Great Points:
Where to start: This is without doubt the best little mother heli I have owned-it is so stable. As soon as you stop going forward or back, she just hovers awaiting your next move-problem I found was I just got so cocky flying the bird that I started to dive bomb my dog who eventually won out by jumping from a chair and grabbing it in its mouth -Pain for both-The dog won, hence I bought two more Syma S107.
But from my heart this great helicopter at it's price that you should be able to buy for around $20- $25 shipped is the best value in life, and will give kids from 8 to a old fart like me at 60yrs old the greatest fun ever- I get excited every time this bird is charged and ready to fly- As I have 6 of them now my poor old computer is constantly charging my Syma 107. I am "Excited"
To be really honest I am amazed at the quality of the Syma S 107 for the price. I would have liked to see a better remote not being infra red and a bit more robust, however it does the job, and again for the price one can not really complain. Have seen replacement remotes for $11 should you break yours-not good idea to drop it on concrete floor!
I am working on some modifications with battery. I have one stripped to the bones at the moment as like a kid want to see how it works so well-you need a small screw driver set for this.
Screwdriver Set What I did was rub a magnet on the required screw driver to magnetize it so able to hold the very small screws to the screw driver, helps a lot.
Would I Buy The 107G Syma
100% Yes from me!
WHERE TO BUY THE SYMA S107 WITH SAFETY
Here are my trusted links below that I have personally bought from- I am always trying to find the best value, but also genuine Syma's sold with trust and back up to return if defective in anyway.
For Syma Helicopters:
I have purchased many RC Helicopters and Drones from Amazon - Yes good experience.. Just search on site for Syma, heaps to view.
I have posted a Syma S107 Spare parts page
All the Syma Helicopters That I have bought from Amazon have not been fakes also any problems Amazon have a return policy.
Yes you can buy cheap Syma S107 spare parts- View Here
I do not recommend buying from Ebay as there are too many fakes there, I found out myself buying 4 all fakes and never flew out of the box.
The Syma S107 is a fantastic helicopter: I have a forum now set up- Feel free to view and post on Syma helis and Syma Quadcopters, also posts for other RC helicopters.

Hi
Have a brand new heli and all functions seem OK except it will not lift off the ground even though the blades are turning like mad.
Also, the tail rotor only works from the right-hand control. Is this how it should be?
Advice appreciated.
@Freddy-is heli fully charged? try to fly off a flat floor not carpet as threads can attach to landing gear-let me know more info
And sorry i ment syma lol but it still wont go in the air because it looses control beforei get in the air please help it waz a chrismas present for my 6 year old brother an till this day he still hasnt flue it lol but i feel bad…
@juan Sorry to hear this-Are batteries in remote new? should go up and hover before moving controls, does it do that-Where did you buy it,reason being many fakes out there-look at my blog-is it same remote as photos I show-more info and we will try to help your young brother, understand your bad upsetting feeling-give us all here some more info if you can-SF
It is not able to fly up and hover in the beginning. Once throtle up the heli move to right side on the ground(not spinning itselt just move to right). I tried to adjust trim but no use.
Any help welcome.
@t0p As mentioned on other comments are you flying near a digital TV- Also more info, have you had a bad crash? lots of scenarios here-explain more know we can help you on this blog as many neat people give feed back-SF
Just got my new S107 and was wondering about the “tightness” of the main blades.
For example, one of mthe two lower blades is rather “stiff” (i.e. doesn’t move freely because the mounting screw holding it is tight. But the other lower blade is “loose”…it moves rather freely.
So, now my question. Are all of the main blades (top and bottom) suppose to move freely (i.e loose) or should their mounting screws be tighter with little blade movement?
I’d sure appreciate your help. Thank you.
Sandy
sandy@sandy.com
All the main rotor blades should move freely.
hey i have a sya s107 a yellow one an as soon as i take off it looses controlwhy?
Can you tell me how to difference between the old Syma S107 and the New Syma S107?
Thanks
@Caleb are you talking about Syma 105?
My S107 will not charge.
When I attempt to charge via USB the light comes on but when I plug the cable into heli the light stays on instead of going out indicating that it’s charging.
When I try to charge via the controller the light goes red (indicating that it’s charging) but I’d rely just like to be able to charge it via comp for both convenience and because the controller eats batteries
hope it helps
hey, I got my heli about a weak ago and every thing was fine and then for some reason my computer charger won’t work, if you plug it in the comp charger light is on but when you plug it in the light doesn’t go off indicating it’s not charging. I have tried to plug it in to the controller and it works great but i was just wondering if you would know.
hope it helps
-Al-
Hey all.
Had my S107 for months now, but it seems it has stuffed up!
For some reason the green light on the heli won’t stop blinking.
No idea whats wrong.
Just before this happened the heli keep turning in circle(this happened for around 2 seconds) and then stopped.
Now when I turn it on all it does is blink green.
Got any idea whats wrong Syma Freak?
Daniel,
The green blinking light is the gyro. If you set the heli down on a flat level surface like a table for about 5 seconds it should go from blinking to solid state. Hope this helps happy flying!
Got it on a flat surface.
Still blinks.
Ok try one more thing, make sure that the Tx is set to the correct channel mine is in “B” but yours may have the switch in another channel. So switch channels leave it there and see if the blinking stops. If this doesn’t work then it maybe a battery issue.
A wealth of information here. Thanks for posting. I just ordered two S107G’s via Amazon. Excited to receive them and get flying!
@Jim,thank you for your comment-you will have fun with two Syma S107 Helis-just remember to give 15 minutes between flights to let the battery cool down before charging, this will preserve the battery from expiring early-Have fun SF
I broke the plastic piece that connects the tail support pipe to the frame, and my replacement tail support pipes did not come with this connector. I don’t see them on the spare parts list. Any suggestions?
If all else fails here’s one option:

@Artie hey dude keep those comments coming-really great to have your help with peoples questions-I have so many emails a day on advice
that I guess miss a few-To my Syma mates with questions, really sorry if slow getting back-if I have missed any of you please email again or post on Forum
Always trying to help! Thanks Artie.
My S107 will not charge anymore. I charged it once using both the USB cable attached to the computer and using the controller. The USB cable light comes on when I insert it into the computer but when I attach the other end to the helicopter the light stays on and the heli does not charge. When I attach the controller the light stays green.
I’m not sure what to do. The problem seems to be the heli. I purchased it from XHeli.
Thanks, Rich
I have a blue and a red S107, they seem to be on the same channel so I cannot fly them at the same time. I was wondering how I can change one of them to a different channel so my sons and can fly them at the same time. Thanks Matt
I’ve had the same problem with my red and yellow helis. My work around is to set one heli remote to the A channel and the other to the B channel. Then power up one heli and either of the remotes. If the remote doesn’t control the heli at first just continue to aim the remote at the heli with the throttle fully engaged. It seems that eventually they will “pair” with one another. Once they do you can do the same trick with the other heli/remote combo.
@Artie well explained,another way of binding.Thanks A
@Matt Here is a link to my forum that should help you bind your Syma’s I am
presuming you have two remotes?bind other heli in a different room on a different channel –LINK
Both the S107 ond the S031G (the big one) Have the same problem. They charge in about 3 to 5 minutes, then don’t have enough power to get more than a few inches off the ground. I replaced the battery with a brand new one (the S107) Made no difference. Problem remained the same. can’t figure it out……..Any idea’s?
@Hookedonflight Do you charge by the usb cable? reason being that had similar problem and found the usb cable was faulty, not saying that is the problem, only that
you mentioned you have the problem with 107 and 031G-Some where to start looking anyway–
Try tightening the screw that is on top of the rotors it does come loose (known issue),
Hey Syma Freak,
Thanks for this website.
I want to get a couple of these for me and my son. I’ve seen packaging that indicates S107 and S107G. Is there a difference between the two.
Thanks in advance.
@Artie not so much in the heli but the package comes in-check RcFever Let me know any help required on buying-SF-Check my clone and fake post
Hello, I hope you can help me- I have a Syma S107 (or a clone, maybe) and it used to work fine. After some mysterious event the tail rotor disappeared, never to be found again. No biggie, we replaced it. But now we tried to fly with after a few weeks of leaving it alone.
It tells us it’s fully charged and the lights and leds light up. But as soon as we so much as touch the throttle, the heli starts up and shuts down immediately. Lights go off etc, as if it short-circuits or something. We have to turn it off and on again to make it come alive again, but it keeps reacting to the controller this way.
We are far from tech-savvy and bought it solely for kicks. But we did love flying it and hope it can be fixed.
I hope you maybe know what’s wrong with it at least 🙁 Many thanks in advance!
Pax
@Pax unscrew the canopy and check battery leads or wires have not become unsoldered due to a crash-also just check other wires fully connected-change batteries in remote with new ones-let me know how you go
We finally opened our two S107 helicopters that we got for Christmas. Can’t figure out how to switch one to a different mode because one controller controls both. Can’t find switch or see in manual. Also, one of them “screeches” like the gears are vibrating. Anything I can do? Anybody have the same problems?
Thanks
@Greg There are some posts on the forum if trying to bind two helis to two remotes, try to do this in separate rooms-gears are screeching, can be shaft bent, try some contact electric solvent spray or some dupont Telfon spray let me know the outcome-Post on Forum Here
I just bought the X107 and could only find this simmilar heli.
Im having signal issues only when i try to use full power (fly up at full speed)..
All battaries are fully charged and no crashes happend.
Is it common? or should i replace with a new one?
@ABC explain a bit more what your problem really is-Do you own a Syma S107? Also explain signal problem so can help you-
Its ok, turns out to be remote control problem and got replaced. Thanks anyway.
Bought this cute thing for my 8 year old. W opened it, charged it up, but cannot get it to move. The instructions state something about making sure channles are the same on the remote and unit, or frequency, but we cannot find anything on the unit to match the A-B-C modes seen on the remote… How do we do this or do you think this is eventhe problem? Thanks!
@Bananny
Turn on remote, put heli near remote on flat surface, turn on Syma Heli
wait a few seconds to bind, light flashing will change if not working do
the same but change channel on remote-fakes are out their, where did
you buy it?
For two S107:
Turn on remote A and heli A. Make sure they are binded together.
Turn off remote A, leave heli A on.
Turn on remote B and heli B. Make sure they are binded together.
Turn on remote A.
You’re good to go to fly both on one remote
Not sure if this is the information you are after-Let me know.
dropped controller. can i get another. where
@Gregg you can get a new remote controller from RcFever for around $11,hope that helps
Got my S107g off Amazon today, and it doesn’t want to respond the controller at all.
Everything’s fully charged, and it’s on the right frequency. Can you think of anything else I might be doing wrong? The method described in the manual for syncing it with the remote isn’t very clear (it’s been lost in translation a bit)
@Max-buddy not sure if replied, emails are mad at the moment-OK
Make sure batteries in remote are new-
Turn on heli then remote on level floor, wait a few seconds,
hit throttle,do blades turn -? Keep away from digital TV Set!
Any digital interference will give you problems as infra red remote
More info will help Me-we can overcome these problems-SF
I just got a 107 and it flew great until last night. Minor crash no visible damage, but has no lift. It is making a clicking noise now too. No more than usual vibration. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
I was able to track down my issue. Some of the teeth are missing on one of the small gears for the top rotor. I am guessing that this is leading to torque loss and slower spin on the top blade. Just wanted to share in case someone else experiences the same issue. Will let you know result of my repairs.
Hi Brian;
Same problem. It worked well for 2 days. Now i have no lift and it spins more. Please let me know what you find.
Thanks Al
I found my problem. I broke off a connect buckle. Now I have to find one.
Al
@Al great you found what the problem was-Here is a link to Syma S107 Spare Parts
@Al cool mate, sorry for late reply-have you checked out my spare page?Let me know any help you need-SF
Replaced the gear and still have same problem. Think I may just hold on to this one for spare parts. The only other thin I can think would be wrong is for one or both of the motors to be bad. For the price of two motors I can just buy a new one. Heli is a lot of fun!
@Brian-Sorry late reply-Two motors going at the same time is odd-keep the old Syma one for spares-
just some times the area of balance can get screwed by a bad crash and can move the battery causing a balance problem.
Keep me posted-Syma Freak
@ Brian-hey that is cool, finding problems are some times hard for helis-really appreciate your post
Hey you have the correct lingo “Torque Loss” keep posting as more info helps all-Good on U-SF
hi i bought two of the s107 from amazon i got the red and yellow thay arived and that were both yellow than i opened one up and the tail roter dose not spin and the same on the other so is thare an easy fix any help would be appreciated
@badhabit Tail motor only works when you push forward control on remote-if this does
not work on either heli, seems odd to me-do not try to repair send back -contact
Amazon, that is the beauty of buying through Amazon.
Try to hold heli by landing gear and throttle up on left remote control, then push
right control forward-if tail motor not turning-send back
out of the blue, my bottom set of blades aren’t rotating.
Thoughts?
@David sounds like the main shaft needs pushing down into gears at the bottom, check all gears meshing and tighten all screw blades
thanks for the help. I’m new to this… are there two motors? it looks like the back one is moving gears – front one isn’t.
@David there are actually 3 motors one is tail motor-the motor in the front if not working can be caused by
a bag crash that can break the solder on wiring-take off canopy, two screws and inspect motor-unusual
for motor to burn out, depends how many flights you may have had-let me know how wiring looks.
yeah – owned it for all of 2 hours… canopy off. blue wire popped off of solder.
that was it. thanks.
ok — new problem 🙂
where do I solder it? what seemed like the obvious spot results in perpetual rotor spinning..!
Here are a couple of wiring sites one the other
is a guy called Killbucks this guy has great photos
hey — I got it! thanks for all the help.
How long does it take to ship to USA from RC Fever, which I see is Hong Kong.
@Eric am in Aussie got in 5 days from RCFever and not fakes or clones
hi i wondered if u could tell me why my top rotor will not spin please help
@Clare Check main shaft is attached to gears at the bottom- try tighten top blade screws
Hey guy’s.I love my 107. Although now she’s down for repairs I have found them to be durable and fun.Parts are inexpensive and easily accessable.I just bought my first 4ch. coaxial.F2011 I bought off e-bay.A different experience.Nine eagles solo pro v2 on the way.I’ll always have a special place for my syma107’s.To the joys of flying! BADGER1017
Some more info… We flew for three days, about 20 flights. It is an original product, we bought in Florida Mall. Don´t remember the store. We can not go there for help cause we are in Brazil now. The problem is that I tried to find something wrong with the helicopter after the last bad landing but couldn´t find it. It seems to be perfect! No lose screw or bent structure. I said it was unstable from the begginig because comparing to another heli that we bought at the same time this one wouldn´t stay stable at an specific point (like a hummingbird). It flies in small circles.
@Lauro- Have a feeling you have cooked the battery-in between flights did you wait 15 minutes before charging? Being also unstable from the onset tells me you have a fake. These birds fly out of the box like a beauty-if not and slight trim does not work you have a fake or company reject-however if flying in small circles means battery or even gyro pcb probs-Sorry still feel it is a fake-if you want send me some photos of her john@syma107.com Might understand your problem more
Thank you for all the info on the S107.
What spare parts should I order for the S107 for when I smack into things. I’ll be ordering from RC-Fever via your link?
@Rags-woo wait a bit until you have a really bad crash-blades I have never replaced-tail blades yes-batteries can screw up if you do not charge them correctly.Do not spend money until a problem happens-you will get the Syma bug and buy some more, hence you can then think of spares or if one is really crashed bad use it for some spares-Hope that helped. SF
Thanks again SF. I just hate to be sitting waiting for a package ; ). I got a great price on a heli at a department store. I charged it up and went to fly it and dinked it. Not bad, but one of those dog bone looking things between the rotors broke. There was a spare in the box, but I wanted more. I called the number on the instruction manual and they only offer the dog bone things as a package with the body parts, rotor blades, etc. Pretty much a crash rebuild kit. I returned the heli.
I figure it wouldn’t be a bad thing to have the commonly broken parts readily available. I suppose the real (ha ha) answer is to order the combo, so if one goes down, I have another waiting. I know you can relate SF ; )
@Rags-having two Syma 107 helis is great as they last for months-when you buy another make sure your first was not a fake-as shit hard to bind to old remote-go fly buddy- My dog is now really ok with syma 107 heli flying around her,but just grabbed my S032G as bigger bird-hell need to repair-Heaps of fun for small dollars
Hi!
my helicopter was not perfectly stable when I bought it. Now when I lift of, after a while, the instability increases and the wings and stabilizer hit each other and the heli colapses. I think it is a matter of weight balance, but I don´t know where to begin.
@Lauro,sorry time getting back to you.Where did you buy heli-is it a fake? If not stable from the beginning, guess should have returned to seller.Anyhow,my experience is bent shaft-or blades lose, check and tighten screws. Balance bar might also be bent. Next problem depending how much flying time could be the battery-as mentioned on many posts, not enough power from battery screws flying-Please post more info-SF
Hi! It was not perfectly stable but nice enough to fly with. We had a lot of fun flying it, but since we are begginers a lot of furniture hitting happened. After the last one it got unstable and impossible to fly with. Thanks for your help!
@Lauro-That is why the Syma S107G is fun to start with-but hey it can be fixed-are gears meshing-I could go on-but post more info-lots of great people here-all mad dudes like me that love our Syma’s so always feel free to post even if you think your question is a bit silly for a beginner-We were all a beginner once!!
Hi. I had the same problem that Lauro describe. I bougth 2 of those units from Amazon.com and after a week they had the same problem. As the matter of fact, I’m readind these post to find a solution to that problem.
I have an S107, and I love the control I get with it. However now after I charge it, no matter by USB or remote, the rotors don’t spin at full speed, resulting in the helicopter only flying about a foot off the ground. All the controls still work, but I used to be able to fly it as high as I wanted to. I’m not sure if a crash could cause this, or if something needs to be oiled. Please let me know. I do know how to work with small electronics and such so I can fix it if I need to.
@Ryan sounds could be either battery not charging fully or a crash has bent main shaft-how does it sound, any odd noises? check gears all meshing ok
There aren’t any odd noises from what I can hear. The battery is fully charged, or the computer/remote are telling me it is. Also I noticed the upper rotor spins slower than the lower one. The gears are meshing fine, and the shaft is not bent. It is very interesting, because it started within a month and a half of when I bought it.
@Ryan,sounds very much as battery problem-unscrew canopy and check battery for enlargement or weeping- Have you followed my advice of waiting 10-15 minutes after a flight before recharging battery-So important to let battery cool down.Battery post
No I bet that in my excitement I didn’t wait the time, I flew the helicopter right after it finished charging. So from now on I will make sure I follow that time for both charging and flying. I will also get a new battery as well, it does look expanded. It’s only $7, which is not that much in the grand scheme of things.
@Ryan,had a feeling battery expired-these batteries need care-put a post on changing battery Not that hard to change-you will be back in the air soon-SF
I would like to thank you for all of the info. I saw a mini
with gyro at Brookstone and really liked it. For 50 bucks
plus tax, I did not like the idea of having to use the
battery driven control only to re-charge the hele, so I
looked around. As Im only interested in flying indoors
for now, this size is great. I look forward to learning
more about mods you are doing as well.
Thanks for taking the time to help nubes like me !!
@Mike $50 seems a little expensive for a Syma S107 buying from a store- try RcFever or Amazon- Also the Syma S107 comes with a USB cable to charge from computer, which is quicker than using remote,I only use remote to charge if not near my computer-hope that helps
I received my S107 in the mail today !!!!!!!!!
I plugged in the USB and it only took 10 mins for the light to come back on telling me it was ready. I did not wait the 10 min cooldown time…Bad Boy !!! I will in the future.
I had a pizza box on my table from last night so I felt it was soft enough to start on. It took awhile to find a channel that worked (number 3 did the trick) and when I did the first startup, I did have to use the left/right control to zero it out.
I dont want to break it so Im taking it really easy, I have not gotten it off the ground by much, and I shut it down. (dog was a problem, I did not want to poke her eye out). I seem to have a small problem of it wanting to drift backwards, and I dont know if its from that downdraft stuff and I just need to get up to 2 feet, or if its unbalanced. The back fin wont go forward, as it has a pin hole to keep it in place, so I took off the nose and the battery was sitting high and back, so I pushed it down and more towards the front, and will try again in a few minutes to fly it. I did try putting it on rug on floor, and it would lean and crash (stop blades) so I guess rugs are no good. I had wanted to do the training kit thing, but everyone said you dont need it with this copter. We shall see !!!
@Mike Great you have got your Syma. Actually the battery is set at an angle, see how it flies now you changed it.Flying backwards needs a bit more throttle otherwise bogs downwards. There is a mod for that (post here) to change tail blade-Let me know how you go.
Hi, My tail rotor blade broke and ive put a spare on ( the right way up i think ) and its flying forwards when i push backwards on the remote and backwards when i push forwards! any ideas?
@George Did you remove tail motor? Also which tail blade did you replace with-sounds like a bigger one and not original?-if so loosen tail motor and reverse-bigger blade effects turbulence with main rotors but not if you reverse complete tail motor-video here might help
No i didnt remove the Tail motor, And the spare one isnt bigger its the same size as original.
Thanks.
@George seems strange if correct tail blade-Did you crash the syma and then change blade? just feel something else going on-maybe by crashing
My heli only turns around, even if i use the rotor trim.
It doesn’t even fly up.
How should I fix it?
@Vic 360 I guess you have had a bad crash,You will need to explain a bit more.Sounds like if spinning you have what they call TBA-or Toilet Bowl Affect- Which means you might have a bent shaft-Good site to explain this Click here
Good Day, Heli Freaks …
After a few test flights we found that she only hovers and does not fly forward/back ….
If it is a wiring problem on the motor blade …. how do you fix it ???
We also found, especially for those with long lesbian hair, that some hair does get wrapped around that rear motor blade yet even with removal, blade still does not work …
@Alex Check if rear tail blade is not a tight fit and spinning on shaft
Re: SYMA S107G Alloy Infrared Remote Control Helicopter – A crash resulted in no drive for lower main rotor. The lower main rotor turns freely manually. No issue with upper main rotor. No issue with rear rotor.
@Ed Check the gears are all meshing ok and not stripped like missing a gear.
Manually turning the lower main rotor turns a total of 4 white gears working toward the nose (front) of the helicopter. All gears appear to be in fine shape (with good teeth, proper alignment, smoothly turning, no scraping).
@Ed,just put a quick post on some heli repairs might help “Repair Syma S107” Sounds as if gears ok-have you checked lower plastic plate holds blades on for crack-also check for loose wires and bent shaft-let me know. This RC Forum worth a visit
@ Syma Freak, Per your suggestion: the lower plastic plate holding blades is not cracked. No loose wires that I can see. I don’t think the shaft is bent because it looks straight and turns freely.
@Ed,Would be a dream if you could send your Syma down the internet for me to repair it-lol- ok-is the main lower rotor turning at all with throttle on? If not could be slipping on shaft-however in between the top and bottom main rotors there is a tube that turns-have noticed that it has picked up my dogs hairs after crashing and jammed the movement-just trying to think out side the square at present-Just strange if top rotor blades turning ok-Will look at my pulled down Syma for a brainwave!!
@ Syma Freak, While the upper main rotor is power driven, the lower main rotor will turn if helped to get started by my hand. However, the lower main rotor is turning without actual motor drive. That is, there is little to no power to drive the turning. I really don’t know why it is turning. I can easily stop the turning without any consequence.
The tube between the upper and lower rotors, turns freely. No hair involved.
@ Syma Freak, Just FYI, there is a tight connection from the front most gear (a small one) and the lower main rotor. Therefore, all four of those gears are connected and turning freely.
@ Syma Freak, Perhaps it would help to describe the crash. One of the lower rotor blades instantly lodged in an air vent bringing the lower rotor to an instant stop, even though the throttle was still on at that moment. This was different from other crashes whereby the blades yield by swinging and the rotor does not instantly halt, it stops when the throttle is released.
@Ed something is badly bent-or you have jumped a gear tooth-you need to strip the bird down-imagine this-one rotor is turning the other gets jammed-result could be a burnt motor-Time to buy another as less hassle to repair and keep broken one for spares. With your already remote just buy a Syma S107 naked at RcFeverAnd bind a new syma 107- Know I sound hard but you have done some real damage-are you at a point to strip and repair? If you are welcome to to the world of Heli flying-the Syma is a strong bird-but eventually crashes will hurt her-Then time for repairs-this believe it or not will determine your future in RC Helis or Planes-Always here to help.
Hi,
The tail blage on my 107 doesn’t rotate at all. Should it? And if so is it an easy fix or do I bring it back.
The two main blades work fine.
Thanks,
Stephen
@Stephen,You tail blade should spin if going forward or back-if not will only hover-make sure blade on tail rotor not spinning on shaft but shaft is,make certain blade pushed right down- if tail shaft not spinning at all going forward or back suspect wiring problem or something wrong with tail motor which is rare-If still under warranty call the vendor.
Many thanks for the advice. Will check out this evening.
Stephen
My girls got a s107G for christmas and it has been working great until a few days ago. We charged it fully and put new batteries in the remote and it still will not fly. When you go tofly it and push the lever all the way up it just spins the propellars for a few seconds and then stops. If you keep your hand on the up lever like your flying it, the propellars will jump like it’s going to spin but doesn’t. I don’t know what’s wrong with it. Can you please help.
Thanks
@Robin Could be a few problems-have you dropped the remote on to a hard surface? check the gears below to make sure all meshed ok,as sometimes they need pushing up on the pin shaft- How many hours flying have you had with your Syma S107-helps me determine if battery problem-also did you let the heli cool down batteries before recharging for at least 10-15 mins-if not battery will not last long and gets to a stage will not charge-my post on battery problems – HERE Let me know. SF
I got my Syma S107 for Christmas. It’s great but I have one issue I can’t solve.
When I fly around in my bed room, the heli suddenly just drops from the air like and I don’t know why. The first day I got it, this was not happening in the same room.
So I went into my living room and it flew around normal.
What can be causing my heli in my room to just fly and drop from the air instantly? I completely lose control. I tried changing channels, same thing happens.
@RJ Are you flying near a digital TV? Also if you fly near the ceiling the turbulence of the blades will shoot your Syma to the ground-Remember the remote is infra-red-any bright lights, like neon lights will effect your remote-hence no control. Try flying in a room with no digital interference-Hope that helps-Let me know.
Having loads of fun with my s107 but the tail blade broke so I had to put the spare on. Now the new blade comes off every time the rear motor spins. Should there be a clip or anything that holds it on? Should I just put a tiny spot of glue on the motor shaft to hold the blade?
@Simon-sorry for delay getting back to you-turned pc off for Christmas and was just flying helis–
Concerning your tail blade: They are normally a very tight fit- I do not recommend gluing the tail
rotor to the motor as you will have a problem to replace it if breaks again-you should order some
new ones as they are really the only part on the Syma S107 that is weak plastic.:Try this, put some
glue on the actual tail rotor inside the hole-let it dry, then get a really small pin or needle heat it up
and gently push through old tail hole-might just tighten up-or put a real small piece of tic-tac
or putty over the tail blade-make sure blade pushed right down and shows silver rod-keep it
small for balance-failing all that go HERE For new tail blades
Hi Syma Freak,
Received 2 more S-107s today. Test flew each one plus the two older birds and once I set up the trim, it was like flying clones they were so evenly matched, with the only difference being the colors (one red, one blue, two yellow). After the test flights, I opened up the transmitters and removed the throttle spring. I also do not like having to change out batteries so I soldered a female JST plug and ran the lead out a small hole I made in the lower bottom edge back of the transmitter. Then I applied a strip of velcro on the lower back and attached a 2s 800 lipo. Since I am heavily into foamie 3D planes, I have a ton of Lipos and chargers for them. Sometime, I will look at making the onboard battery easily removable, as we have discussed in a previous thread. I left the spring in my grandson’s heli as I think it will be safer and easier for him. If he gets into trouble, all he has to do is release the throttle and it will power down.
Ed, When I was testing them tonight, I did not think of setting them up to fly at the same time. It is too late now, as they are boxed up and gift wrapped. I also bought them as gifts. One each for my grandson and two sons and my self. Can’t wait until Christmas when they open them up. (Just like a little kid!)
@SpadCat You are a legend-great idea with remote-let me know how you go with onboard battery as already replaced two originals on older Syma S107, have tried with not a lot of success for modification-Always feel free to contact me with any videos or photos of any mods to your Syma as will post on this blog with reference to you. Will have a forum up and running next week – Above all everyone have a great Christmas and get those birds flying!!
Well, hardly a legend, especially with what all you have done with this toy (I hate calling it that, as it is a fine piece of engineering brilliance that just a few years ago was impossible to build, let alone at the price we are paying for it). I have years of RC problem solving experience which helps, but I am nothing compared to what is available from the internet which is responsible for disseminating incredible amounts of information from people such as yourself helping make our hobby much more fun.
In regards to the xmitter battery mod. This is just a quick temp mod. Unfortunately, the battery box appears to be a part of the box and not removable. If it was, I would have just taken it out and put the Lypo in there. After Christmas, I will take a look at mine and see if it is practical to Dremel out the box and make room for the Lipo. If it does not work and the xmitter is destroyed, I can just buy a new one. I hear they are pretty cheap.
Thank You for all you have done and Merry Christmas!
Spadcat
Hello again.
Do you happen to know, or does anyone know how to make the infrared go farer then 6-8 meters?
At night its a great flyer in very clam winds, its just that I can’t go very far before losing signal and falling to the ground.
Would be get if I could get a extra 10 meters.
Maybe removing the blue case would help? Maybe a red cover instead?
@Dan 8 meters I guess is just over 26 feet,I think you are going to be pushing it to get further- also watch out for electric
cables etc as effects infra red remote.Yes you could take off the blue protection plastic from remote, I am not game to do
that myself-Hidden screw view video on removing throttle spring, shows you how to open remote.
Thanks for the info as I am new to the rc heli. Your website is very informative. I will pass it on to my nephews on Christmas.
Thanks again
Just bought 8 of these birds for Christmas presents. Three nephews in one family and two nephews and the dad in another family. Of course two for myself. They are so fun to fly. My question is why do they call it a 3 channel heli. I was hoping all three of them could fly them at one time.
@Ed,Not totally sure what you mean-you obviously have 8 remotes and 8 Syma S107,they should all bind to their own remote
and every one can fly-or you might want to do this
For two S107:
Turn on remote A and heli A. Make sure they are binded together.
Turn off remote A, leave heli A on.
Turn on remote B and heli B. Make sure they are binded together.
Turn on remote A.
You’re good to go to fly both on one remote
Not sure if this is the information you are after-Let me know.
Can you fly three at a time?
@Ed,Yes you can-however I feel it is best to take each Syma 107 to a different room to bind each one,as
had problems if you try to do them all close to each other-Other words first one turn on heli, then remote
wait for green flashing light to stop flashing, that one ready to fly-same with others-hope that helps.
Rc Forum for more info.
Yes in Aus, Melb.
My first comment was a hobby model shop.
In my second comment, I was talking about a place that sells cheap stuff(mainly cheap rubbish toys, but quite a few nice looking helis).
A bit like one of those Chinese gift stores, just not Chinese owners.
@Dan be careful buying from what it sounds like is a $2 shop-chances are that will be a fake- there are lots of different helis out there and I have bought my share of crap ones- stick to a Syma S107 and buy from a Hobby shop or Amazon-don’t rush just before Christmas to buy one and it is a fake will put you off min-helis for good-hope that helps-check out the post on fakes here The boxes they get packed in are getting more styles but look for Syma Label in red. Go to RCFORUM great advice
Well at the store it was going for $50.
It was a black box.
On the prop it had the WARNING and the little writing.
The thing that holds the prop was black, not metal silver.
The remote looked a bit cheapish, but Syma is a cheap brand….
It said Gyro on it.
How much chances now is it a fake?
@Dan Looking good as not a fake-The Syma remote is infra red and not the most robust remote but does the job-replacement cost around $7- this is a indoor heli- Sounds to me I would go for it-try to crunch them on price-throw $40 cash on the counter-they will either say yes or no-Out of the box should fly ok-if grinding noise or vibrating take it back- Stores will not take them back if damaged- Go get it Dan!!
Got it today.
The guy would not give $40.
Got it anyway.
When flying it went to the left abit.
Trim it and it went fine.
No grinding, or vibrating.
It did vibrate when holding it sideways(My old 2CH did that..).
Seems to fly great, much better then the old 2CH I had.
I got a spare back wing rotor, usb charger, heli and transmitter.
Seems real to me.
Thnaks Syma Freak.
@Dan, was worth a try for $40- I am really excited for you-yes you got all it comes with- not every time a flight needs a minor trim-seems to need it if you crash. Just a tip Dan-please let this little bird cool down the battery in between flights before a recharge-so know u will end up buying two!! -This really preserves the battery- not hard to fit a new one-however you should get hours of fun if you charge battery correctly- Go fly dude, hope they have a Syma in heaven when I leave this shitty planet-lol
Just two more things.
Is the yellow canopy metal or plastic?
Mines plastic.
The throttle.
Does it fling back to the bottom(no motor power) or is it meant to stay in the place you put it?
My throttle flings back to no power after letting it go.
Thanks.
@Dan canopy is flexi plastic-yes the throttle snaps back after letting go to protect in case of crashes-
there is a mod view here-however I leave mine as factory as when u take the spring out there is no resistance at all and just to sloppy for me.
Also the A B C thing is not correct…
I can only go from A-B to B-C.
I assume I can pick only A and B.
Is that right?
@ Dan all my 11 remotes for the Syma S107 will not move to position A, only work in B and C-
I have know idea why that is,but you can use B to bind another Syma 107 and fly two at the same time-
not recommended but.
For two S107:
Turn on remote A and heli A. Make sure they are binded together.
Turn off remote A, leave heli A on.
Turn on remote B and heli B. Make sure they are binded together.
Turn on remote A.
You’re good to go to fly both on one remote
All seem fine then.
For a second time.
Thanks Syma freak, excellent info.
@Dan, just great to get your comments, all helps other people with great info-
Trying to set a forum up at present-will get there I hope before Christmas
reckon that will help a lot of Heli mad dudes like us- One of my little birds
has just charged-Flight Time Begins -yezzz
A other local store is selling the $50 AUD.
Its a black box(you can see the heli and remote), and it has the Syma logo.
How can I make sure its not a fake?
It seems real, but can never be sure.
Thanks.
@Dan- Hi,when you say local store is that a model shop-Are you located in Aussie,as I live in Sydney and might know the store- did the heli show S107 on canopy? $50 is getting up there in price RcFever has syma s107 for $39-63c delivered to Australia I am sure it will be genuine, however ask what the warranty covers and time to return if faulty-keep in touch
Hello.
I notice one of my local hobby stores selling the S107.
On the remote labal it said Syma insted of Gyro.
Is this a fake?
Thanks.
After another attempt at a recharge(again via USB), luckily one of them started functioning properly.
The other one, even though is fully recharged, starts up the rotors for a fraction of a second and then powers itself down. Turning it on and off gets the life back(blinking leds) but still after the remote throttle signal it dies down. 🙁 I have tried using the helis separately to avoid conflict with the remotes.
I don’t necessarily think that it is a remote binding issue as the green led on the heli circuitry blinks then becomes steady and the remote led has always been steady green.
@Wii_fit Well good to hear you have one Syma going. Now there are two other possibilities that your other heli will not fire up-
1: Batteries in remote just might be flat-has happened for me-one of 8 batteries I bought was kaput so affected the current required to fire up heli using remote.
2: The battery in the Syma s107 might be no good or the wiring might have come apart- I have around 10 Syma S107 as just love them however
one had a dud battery out of the box-Rare to happen but the batteries are massed produced and you might have one made on a Friday,if you know what I mean.
However where did you buy the Syma’s from? Most places have 30 day guarantee-I suggest you contact the seller or shop-
If not under warranty:
I would recommend undoing the two screws on the canopy and have a look around-especially at battery connections and see if battery swollen
or defective in anyway- here is link to a post on batteries I did– Really sorry that you are having these problems, please let me know where purchased from as will check site out to make sure you have not bought a fake-Clones generally are ok just licensed under different names- Keep me posted.
Hello again,
Thanks for the replying..After some fiddling with, the heli is completely dead! 🙁
For a couple of times, the green led was blinking on and becoming steady but the rotors would spin for a second before the heli dies.
Weird thing, with my one before the last try, the green led didn’t become steady and was constantly blinking with a different pattern and the heli rotors didn’t even spin nor it shut off completely.
With the last try, the heli didn’t even turn on..I think it is dead. The battery light is still on the cable if I connect it to USB, though if you don’t connect any heli to the cable it is still lit 🙂
I got it from ebay and I think the seller accepts returns within a 3-day period.
I think I have the original, checked it against the images posted on the rc groups forum.
@Wii_fit I would jump on Ebay and return it-Did you buy through PayPal? they help a lot-do not think about it do it now-Or you keep it for spares, depends how much you paid for it.
Always be careful with Ebay as the ones I had trouble with were not fakes but feel they were company rejects-just felt wrong, finish on canopy poor, box was not normally packed correctly- In fact right now going to take off link to Ebay- To many people having problems with doggy sellers-Cheap prices now send a warning to me-
Have approached a lot of companies in China and even if I order 30 Syma S107 they will cost me landed in Aussie $32 a pop for original Syma’s so how can one sell them for $1 on Ebay and charge me $17 postage- I have learn’t a lot.
Still the best heli ever, just some rogues out there-Keep me posted on return policy-maybe if problems we burn and shame you Ebay seller-Up to you.
I just heard from the ebay seller and they said they were sorry and would ask the issue to their retailers and get back to me. Let’s see how it goes.
The seller which I got them from looks like a decent one with many of the same items sold with %100 feedback and I paid around $20 plus shipping. So it wasn’t dirty cheap.
I just came from RC Groups (I am a member) where I found the answer, which is only 2 can fly at one time (A B and B C ). Kilbucket seems to be the top dawg there and has an impressive site.
Thanks
@Lon Kilbucket is the man on Rc Groups- Really happy that you connected with the forum-Have great fun with the Syma S107 and thank you for you comments-really neat!!
I looked under the canopy, the battery connections look good and nothing else looks out of the ordinary other than an extra loose screw I found stuck between the chassis holes!! Definitely, this thing was done on a Friday 🙂
Wii_fit Nothing should be floating around especially screws as will mess up the gears-Send them both back-bite the bullet
let me know what part of the world you are in and will find “a fair dinkum seller” Aussie slang for honest person.
Ha, that’s cool..thanks. I’m in USA, I know Amazon.com has it available from some sellers but the ebay one looked more affordable, but I guess you get what you pay for..
I’ll definitely send the dead one back after I hear back from the seller.
@ Wii_fit As you can tell from my reply’s I am so fed up with Ebay rip off sellers-The Syma is a great heli- As you are in USA you can buy from Amazon with cheap postage and faith that you will buy a unique heli-
I really appreciate your comments-hell we nearly finished the whole page-I know folks will read these comments which is great and realize to be careful buying cheap off Ebay- Again thank you for your input- Am trying to put a forum together on my site-little daunting at present, but feel it might help all-Thank you again for your comments-Regards Syma-Freak
Hi,
I was so excited to get two of these for my kids and we had a great 15 mins when the helis worked perfect then suddenly both of the helis stopped responding. First they didn’t lift off and after a while they become unresponsive to the remote.
I thought it might be a battery problem so I charged them via the USB. After the charge the rotors start spinning and then stop. And sometimes they don’t even spin. Feels like the battery of the remote is low, is it typical that the power of the remote batteries to go out after just half an hour or is this problem something else? Nothing on the heli hardware seems to be broken at the first glance.
Thanks
@Wii_fit This could be a binding problem with your remotes especially if you are binding two helicopters at the same time near each other-It is unusual for batteries on both helis to be dud after a few flights-do you charge with USB? If so make sure you wait until red light comes on usb cable and is bright not flickering. My view is the remotes need to be binded correctly-try this
For two S107:
Turn on remote A and heli A. Make sure they are binded together.
Turn off remote A, leave heli A on.
Turn on remote B and heli B. Make sure they are binded together.
Turn on remote A.
You’re good to go to fly both on one remote
PS. Set channel on both remotes before doing all this!
or try this for one heli:turn the heli on place it down on a flat surface, wait till the little green flashing light at the back stays a solid green, then turn on the remote and should bind one heli to remote.
Visit this forum might help as well RC GROUPS
Let me know how you go with this-Thank you for post
Hi, Thanks for the very informative blog. I had already locally purchased two 9035’s as Christmas gifts for my two adult sons and wanted a smaller indoor heli for my 5 year old grandson who is close to soloing his RC fixed wing trainer (an EZ Fly foamie trainer) . After a lot of research, I found the S-107 and then your blog. That did it, I ended up order one for my grandson and one for myself! I have been flyinf fixed wing RC since 1963. My first (and only) heli I bought 5 years ago was a Sabre fp (Walkera) and have been very frustrated with it. Looking forward to having fun with S-107.
Thanks again,
Lon
@Lon You sound like you have got hooked on Mini-Helis-they are a great deal of fun-I own heaps of Syma helicopters but my favorite is the Syma S107-Your Grandson will love the Syma S107. As he is only 5 yrs old my advice is always be there when he wants to fly as the blades near eyes as such can be dangerous-Going to post more about correct care of batteries in small helis- Just remember to let the battery cool down after a flight for 15 mins before re-charging this will give longer life to the battery-Really appreciate your comment-let me know how your flying goes when you have got the Syma S107-Enjoy
Hi Syma-Freak,
Just received the two S-107s I ordered from Amazon. It only took 4 days to get here! I see the shipper is X-Heli out Phoenix, but if you go to their website, the S-107’s are on back order. Amazon must have reserved a batch. I paid just over 30 bucks each shipped, so I liked the looks of them so much, I ordered two more for my adult sons.
Couple of questions: How much life can I expect out of the xmitter batteries and is it worth going the rechargable Ni-Cad AA route? I would rather install 2s or 3s Lipos, but the voltage of a 2s may be too low and the 11.1 3s too high. I would also have to take out the battery box. Is this possible without causing too much damage and have you done anything like this?
Thanks!
Lon
PS the 9035s are actually 9053s
@Lon Great to hear you have received your two Syma S107. X-Heli is a good company. If you are charging your heli using the remote only batteries do wear out fairly quickly-I only use remote for charging if not near a computer to use the USB Yellow charge cable-charging heli by usb is quicker.
I have gone down the route of changing the batteries in the Syma to a lipo 3.7, fair bit of work involved and then had a balance of weight problem with the heli- I will be posting more about this. My view just fly these little girls as they are for awhile- WARNING- Wait 10 -15 minutes after a flight before recharging SymaS107 as internal battery gets hot, let it cool-I learnt the hard way and fried the battery within a month-Hope that helps: Battery change post
WOW! Just tested the first one and….these things are F U N! You actually don’t have to go outside the house to fly RC! No more waiting for daylight, calm wind conditions etc etc…I can go on, but you already know all that. Really Cool! Testing the 2nd S-107 once I load batteries in the xmitter.
Just a note:
On the Mac computer, you cannot use the keyboard USB ports (which I suspected), only the ports on the computer.
Thanks!

2nd heli tested flew just fine. Both had a slight rearward motion with neutral stick so I loosened the set screws and slid the skids forward. Now they both take off in a rock solid hover.
@Lon Not a Mac user-good point to post tho.Really only indoor heli as infra red remote hates the sun.
Enjoy whizzing around your house-get the other one charging-great to have two Syma S107 as one is always ready for flight- Good idea with landing skids,Take care.
OK, had to finally put them away….Good time buzzing around the house.
The transmitter has a switch labeled “A B C” from what I understand is to change infrared frequencies, however there seems to be only 2 positions. Did not want to force it. This is the same on both xmitters. I think I read somewhere that it has 3 available channels.
I am hoping that I can fly three of these together with my two sons.
What do you think?
@Lon Transmitter correct has A,BC, However every Syma S107 I have can only switch to two channels-do not force it-I am not sure why this is so-Will check on some forums and get back to you-Forum to look at and join- RC-Groups Excellent information.
