The transmitter for iPhone is a separate thing you plug into the headphone jack, so it should have the same beam as a remote.

That said, you buy the iCopter for the novelty of running it from your iPhone, not for actually flying too great. It's just a cool thing you can do with it, and is yet annother sales gimmic.

I don't have a smartphone, so I would never use the icopter thing, but it is still cool.

(what I'd like to see would be if you get an open room, and you fly it from a computer without crashes, and record the motions in some computer program, so you can start it out at the same place, facing the same direction, and fly it completely human free!)

I agree with Supernova's assessment.

You may be able to glue the gear in place, but it sounds like you will be developing a parts bin.Yell

As for using the iPhone as your controller (there's an app for that?) your IR would most likely have a very narrow beam as it's primary use is for data transfer. Make sure your aim is true!

Sounds like it needs a new shaft , the gear is on a spline and could be stripped.

I received an SYMA I-copter S107G as a gift. I flew it 3 times useing my iPhone as the controler with less than steller results. After the third crash the lower props no longer turned. The plastic gear on the lower propeller motor slides up the motor shaft so that it is not in contact with the larger gear. I placed a smal piece of wire sheathing as a spacer around the shaft so the small gear stayed in place but the copter still would not lift off. Any help?
