"We're talking five + ton boats here…" Bloody hell that is more than just a wind..."It's not THAT the wind is blowing… it's WHAT the wind is blowing."
those are words so true Voodoo--are all your family and friends ok?

Over here in the UK right now I missed it all. But, emails from mates in and around Toronto were not good. Lots of trees and wires down as expected. I had my mates check on my boat ( all our boats came out of the water (Lake Ontario) the day I came over here..long, long day...then an eleven PM flight...with a connection...14 hours total) and make sure my hatches were lashed down. All is good with our boat... and most others at our club just east of Toronto... but two boats were blown over in the storm. Fairly big ones... We're talking five + ton boats here... sitting on steel cradles we have to drag into position with trucks...
The power of the wind!!
And as a good friend likes to say... "It's not THAT the wind is blowing... it's WHAT the wind is blowing.
A woman in Toronto was killed when hit by flying debris!

Sure glad I'm on vacation... and not at work!!! (Fire Service) Although I'll never hear the end of this from my crew!
To all those who were affected... time to clean up...
Don't worry. Very anticlimactic here. Monday night was very doom n gloom, and we thought it was going to be an insane storm that would knock out power, yada yada yada. Monday night, it turned into a light drizzle, and sometime Tuesday morning or afternoon, it turned into snaux. It went right around me, hitting some local towns hard and back home fairly hard with rain, but nothing significant--just some trees down and some power lost, but that's it. Heck, that's normal for regular storms around here.
Hey JamDJ: That is good to hear you and your family are ok..There has been so many deaths caused by Sandy storm, it really brings home to me that we are just small specks of life compared to what nature can hand out.. All we achieve in life is awesome..but more than ever, I as a old dude enjoy waking up for a new day and what ever it brings--hope CPD and others in the area of Sandy Hurricane are ok..thanks for letting us know you guys are ok-- feel free to put photos up if you wish SF

We took a direct hit, the eye of the storm passed directly over us last night between
about 8 PM and midnight. Somehow, despite Sandy's fury, our area went pretty much
unscathed, we didn't even loose electricity and had no damage. I wish I could say the same
for others. For 4 straight hours, the wind was frightening and the rain was what you'd
expect in a hurricane. This morning I was amazed to go outside to see that the worst here
was a tree branch down about the size of an S033! I don't understand how area was spared!
The surprising part is that there was no thunder or lightening, nor threat of tornadoes, which
usuallly accompany hurricanes. Sandy has stalled just slightly and has weakend to what they call
an "extra-tropical" system. Add to all of the unusual factors, as I type this, it is snowing.....
Thank you to all for your concern!

Looking at the current Google Maps map, it seems like I'll be just off to the side of it, but it will still be rather strong. I also got an email a little bit ago from the school saying that classes are canceled starting at 3pm through tomorrow.
Lets see what happens...
I'm still in the direct path here in south central Pa.
So far as of 11 PM Sunday, very little rain and breezes
Starting to increase. Like CPD said, schools closed til
Wednesday. Supposed to be worst here tomorrow night
After Sandy makes that left turn. We'll see what tomorrow
Brings during the day .
Well, I was talking online with my one friend that's in the meterology dept. of Penn State main campus, (and on the student council, although I forget what position exactly he said he was, but it was something fairly prestigous) and he sent a map of the penn state system and Sandy, and, well... it dont look good... red schools are closed tommorrow...
The good news for me is I'm just off from the main storm, about on the border of the 1 1/4" and 1 1/2" of rain line to the left of the storm.
Thanks. It shouldn't be that bad, but where I'm at's right in the path. I don't know if they're showing the path of it down under, but the thing's going straight up, then "Oh, look! Lets hit PA almost exactly where CPD's at!" and taking a 90 degree turn right into Southern PA, where it'll go to where I'm at, and then stall out because of a second front. I'm not anywhere by the coast, but with the mountains here, well... who knows what it's going to turn into... probably snaux, maybe some real snow,
Personally, what's worse is having a bad cold right now on top of the weather change, so now my head is a pressure cooker now. Runny nose, soar throat, (that was the first thing to start) and now my one ear's getting all of the sinus pressure to it, and it's clogging up. Uggg... this is going to suck.
As per songs that I'm thinking of now...
