While flying one of my x5c's today it crashed which is nothing new.But now it appears that one of the motors want work.I checked you tube and did the check to make sure the pinion I believe it is was down to line up with the gears nothing. So I guess the motor needs to be replaced. To take it apart and do that soldering I don't think I would be to great at that I think I will keep this one for parts and order another one.I might tinker with it when I gain some confidence. But for me to try and repair it now would be me flirting with disaster.
Buddy, must admit never had that problem with all crashes I have had, however does happen if you do not shut down throttle fast on a crash. Looking at a brighter side of things, you have entered a new hobby. It is a fun learning curve and really not that expensive these days compared to my youth back in 1960. So do not get down on things like that, buy a new one, keep the old and take it apart, plenty of spares there, also you will learn more how they work. Also check under props at gears, you might have stripped one not burnt motor out. All a learning curve, have fun Justdon, never give up flying dude !!

Hey J,
My dog passed away 3 years ago..and killed a lot of my indoor helis, but then at the field she got excited to fly with me, and would hunt down my X5C if I could not find it, almost like finding a bird I might have shot, not that I do that, and bark at it.Can not tell you how many trees I have had to climb to get my bird back. Now I fly in a big field no trees lol

Thank you JamDJ.The quads are a lot of fun to me.Now I have to get back on track with my 107 and chinook.I got scared today I was out at the county fairgrounds and the wind caught my x5c took it into the woods but I found it and it was ok.Also my german shepard hates my helicopters.I have to keep an eye on him when I fly in the house. As I said before I know I will have good/bad and ugly days but given time I will get better at it.And one thing I have noticed I see people of all ages flying helicopters and drones.

Syma FreakHi Justdon,
Another welcome to the forum! Glad you are here and already using it to have your questions
answered and sharing your experiences! Please keep your posts coming in! Thank you for sharing
and joining us and another thanks to SF for his replies as I am just getting back into the swing
of things here!
Yes you have definately been bitten by the Syma bug! Nasty disease, gets us moving around the house, outside,
keeping up our dexterity, taking harmless risks, sharing stories, people watching and learning... the only
cure is more helis and a streaming supply of AA batteries. Age means nothing here, I'm in my mid 50s and
enjoying a hobby we never had as kids. Even the younger generation are having fun on here taking pics and
flying quads w/ cell phones.
You started with the absolute best of the best with the 107. It won't be long until you begin to build up
a fleet of the different colors and features they have. I even have one that squirts water bubbles! Crashing
these little guys barely means they are done. One of the best benefits is how easy they are to repair and
the easy and very inexpensive replacement parts available.Syma is a huge corporation making flying toys
(ahem....flying aircraft!) worldwide under a large number of different brands for a lot of retailors private-label.
The clones that you wrote of are pretty much a thing of the past. When they first came out there were knock-offs
but that has since subsided.
You are actually in the catbird seat as far as training goes. Us old schoolers had a hard time getting the jist of
the quads because we are so used to flying the basic 3.5 channel ones. You are learning quads and standards
at the same time so you don't have old thumb habits built-in! "Practice, you must" as a Jedi trainer once said!
Outside is the obvious, stay away from trees, powerlines, and neighbors cars! The 107s aren't that good outside
anyway, but looks like you found your niche for outdoor flying. Indoors can be a different story.....these guys gravitate
towards Christmas lights and flat-screen TVs. Neither of which will do well against prop-spin at full throttle. Great on
rainy days and winter flying though!
One note I want to reinforce is what SF said in an earlier post is the importance of the "15 minute rule".
Again, when the battery dies, wait 15 minutes before recharging. Then after charge is complete, wait 15 more
minutes before lifting off again. This will greatly prolong the life of the battery. Remeber that changing a battery in a
107 does require soldiering, they are not equipped for plug-and-play with common connectors.
Other heli's: Congrats on scoring a DX-2 FREE no less!!! Although it doesn't look like a Syma product made for Sharper Image,
what I just read about it sounds like fun, so enjoy! Once you get the 107 down pat, you will definately like your
Chinook. I like the semi-scale realism but did take quite a few training flights to get used to. 4 motors and a bit heavier
but I am really enjoying mine! Another good indoor one you would like is the S-111 US Coast Guard heli. It is
much smoother to fly than the 107 and has a great looking LED light display. It's a little slower than the 107 as well
but as a semi-scale model is one of my favorites!
OK, so much for MY babbling and a belated Merry Christmas! Welcome to the forum!

Two great things happened today. This mourning I got up hyped up to go to the county fairgrounds and I thought I would make a fool of myself but iam still learning.First great thing happened a neighbor came to me and said I see you in your front yard sometimes tinkering with your drone and he said here you can have this it was a sharper image dx-2.He said he hated it went to Walmart and bought it a week ago crashed it and broke a blade he replaced it and said it just tilted but would not take off. So I told him you probably put the wrong blade on we looked at the manual and he had we replaced it with the right one and bingo it lifted off.So I said come on out to the fair grounds with me and practice he said no its your its a gift.I said thanks and headed out to the fairgrounds.Second great thing I had my 107 the sharper image and my x5c.Ok got out there tried the 107 first not to great acted funny I think because it was real sunny and it interfered with the infared.Next I tried the dx-2 Took off it flew like I couldn't believe I went up high and in circles and a few days ago I was cursing saying iam on a long learning curve and the big test I flew it back to me and got it to hover right in front of me and I said I must still be in bed dreaming.Next what I consider the holy grail of my aircraft right now the x5c I had it hovering spinning and went up high with it.I said finaly iam catching on.Whats even better I only crashed twice today.SF what you said is true that I would start one day and it would be ok.I still can't believe it I was comfortable with my drones and having fun.I know I have many more crashes to come and there will be good/bad and ugly days but now iam realy happy.Sorry I took so long to babble about my day flying but I feel like a kid at Christmas now.
Well great to get a free drone, something more to practice with. You are really getting switched on now by realizing to put the correct props on, as they are clockwise and anti clockwise, I am impressed! The crashes will get less, outside fly on grass, really hard to do any damage. Most crashes happen inside, having said that i can now fly all around my house and land where i want, just practise, you have now got over the fear factor so your flying will just get better.
The Syma 107 is not for flying outside really only maybe on not a sunny day as the infra red remote hates sun and digital tv set.
You are not babbling, it is great to hear your flying stories, in the end buddy all about having fun and learning to control the birds, I can tell you one thing it will keep away dementia lol, as i am well into my 60's now and learning how to control remote and drone really helps my cognitive skills. Think it is great for older people to fly a drone, you know why, when you can do it ok, it is so rewarding.
Keep flying Justdon

Syma FreakNothing wrong getting two X5c quads..you will find flying outside with not a infra red remote very rewarding. Then get a little higher and hit the flip button, you have a lot to learn yet, but take your time.I Did a review here, might help you.
"Fly like a butterfly sting like a Syma" http://syma107.com
Don't laugh SF but I ordered another one just in case I crash and ruin this one.Iam still trying up and down it drifts off to the left or right and sometimes forward.I have to figure out how to use the trim to stop that.Progress I can get the 107 to hover a little bit now.I just think my learning curve is longer than others. But I can truly say iam not disappointed with either one just a matter of learning how to control them. And when that happens iam going to be in heaven.
Now justdon, you have the perfect flying machine, the Syma X5C. So easy to fly, I have three and lots of charged up batteries.I fly over grass crash often, but no drama, hope you got one with camera as really great.. you are moving on dude, age means nothing, fun is it for a small cost, it is more expensive for me to play a game of golf than buy a Syma X5C
"Fly like a butterfly sting like a Syma" http://syma107.com
Finally I have something to be happy about.Iam still stumbling and bumbling with the 107.But my nephew brought me a package this mourning he had checked my mail for me because I had to go out of town yesterday. So he spent the night watching my house and he brought me the x5c that I had ordered.I charged it up put batteries in it and crossed my fingers. To my surprise not bad it seems so easy to handle. This one I will learn fast it seems awesome.I know I sound like a kid but its a world of difference.I will still work with the 107 but iam happy to have something that I can fly a bit. I don't know why the 107 gives me fits but the drone just seems so easy to fly.
Justdon, don't worry to much as that post was 5 years ago when the Syma 107 hit the market and other manufactures tried to copy the design, things have changed a lot and not many fakes out there, clones maybe but they are ok, just sold under different names.
I buy a lot from Amazon and also Gearbest as free shipping to Australia where I live.
Keep us posted when you get the Chinook awesome heli to fly and stable.

Hi Justdon welcome to the forum
The Syma 107 is the best helicopter to learn with, my only tip would be when you crash turn off throttle straight away as most damage gets done with the props still turning and smashing on the floor.
Just start of slowly learning. Try lifting heli into the air then landing again, just to learn the control of the remote. Just keep practicing you will suddenly have a day when it all goes well. Another tip wait for around 10 to 15 mins to let battery on heli to cool down before recharging, if not the lipo battery will not last long.
Above all have fun Regards SF

Iam new to this I waited 2 years to give it a try.I just recently purchased a 107g.Iam retired and its a hobby I wanted to always get into.I think I better buy a few more 107's because I constantly crash. And I don't think this little copter can last long with me.Right now if I can keep it in the air for 5 seconds iam doing great. All the you tube videos make it look like they are easy to fly at the moment not for me.But I guess practice makes perfect.I hope I don't destroy it before I get a grasp of it.So much for about me.Are some helicopters more stable that I should try or is it just me possibly just going through a learning curve.
