Greetings, Jeff, and welcome to the Forum!
First of all, congrats on getting a 107 and having a successful flight on your first try!
As you learn to fly it better, you will become addicted, just like us, and end up owning a range of them,
different colors, cameras, water guns, missles, etc. There is alot to learn and this forum is all
about helping and sharing and learning about this hobby! Please check back often and let us know your
results.
As per your query:
1.) Understand that your remote controller works on IR frequency which is infra-red light, not
radio waves transmitted by RC cars, planes and such. There are more advanced Symas that
work off those types, but the 107 uses IR frequency. Therefore, lighting conditions will affect your
flights.
2.) As stated, there are many conditions that will affect your flights from one to another. Was it daylight
during your first flight and nighttime during your next? Did you have a TV on or off in one of the rooms?
(Keep it away from flat-screens!) Mirrors in either room, shadows, even Christmas lights can affect flights.
Was a chandelier or table lamp lit during one flight and not the other?
3.) Ambient room conditions....Was a heater or air-conditioner on during one flight and not your other?
You said you flew it through doorways, was one opened first? Was a window open?
4.) Batteries
A.) Are the batteries in your remote fresh?
B.) "Critical" Are you following the 15 minute rule posted in this forum for recharging the heli?
C.) Beware of how you are recharging the battery in the 107 itself. I tried using my cell phone charger USB
and killed a battery in less than a month. Best bet is USB on your 'puter or cable/satillite TV box if so
equipped, I found the USB hub on my Nintendo Wii works fine, also.
In all, it seems like your chopper works fine, just a learning curve for you as a new pilot. Don't be discouraged!
There are alot of people on here more technically advanced than myself who will help you if the above doesn't work.
As you search the forum, you will find very few reasons for returning a heli as "defective".
Good luck and keep in touch with us!
Best wishes
JamDJ
I have a new syma s107g. My first ever! It flew pretty well on my first flight: I was able to fly from the living room through two doors into the kitchen to bother my wife with it.
But on my second charge, it kept cutting intermittently. It was as if something was getting between the remote and the helicopter, but there was nothing there. Is there something wrong with the helicopter? Or the remote?
Thank you for any advice you can give!
