Well a shotgun to shoot trap can be had for a couple hundred, a good trap gun is more like a couple thousand, heck my air gun with scope was 600$. Never thought I'd ever have to sell my stuff but it is what it is. First thing to go was the guns, next was the steel (most of it), then my good kayak, which was the first thing to be replaced. All a matter of priority's.I kept the 50 cal. Hawkins as it was a gift from me to my now deceased father.  I like the hawkins for the whole process and it's one shot, have to make it count. Like the attitude of not what you can't do but what you can do. Always looking for the most bang for the buck now, hence the rc helicopters, a lot of fun for a small investment.

Do not consider your spine will stop you doing Martial arts, they used to look at my bent and twisted body and said you are joking-then as 13 yrs old went from UK to France for a year to study-stayed with a great French family-met this French Negro martial art teacher- said what can you not do- showed him-he said, left arm forget it right arm maybe 60% action, however your legs are strong and feet ok,train with what you have-hence the future world from Karate to Tae Kwon Do, to kick boxing, amazing when you meet someone that takes the bull shit out of words and tells you where it is really at-you will do ok-just trust your faith.Trust me as a old car salesman!- All things are possible.just find a way around adversity.

take care

I've never played with black powder, but there are obviously a lot of guys into it. What's the attraction for you?

I like music, I play the drums. I'm not a huge athlete, but I do play golf and LOVE it. I like martial arts, but I won't be able to do that cause of my spine. Doing any type of high-velocity-high-impact sport has the tendency to loosen the screws in my back and bad things will happen. My physical therapist doesn't even know if I can do golf anymore, for at least three more months. Even still, I'll have to work around my back being stiff. I'm also interested in the Bible and in God. My surgery was a big wake up call from God for me to focuse on him. I work the sound board for our Church youth group, and LOVE it! I had to take a break due to surgery. I'm interested in cooking, I love to cook! I would like to own a sushi restaurant some day. I also like aviation and would like to learn to fly. I'm interested in cars, mainly classic cars. I like ANYTHING from WWII! Airplanes, cars, boats, clothing, anything and everything!

I hope that gave you enough info! God bless,

A good, used, shotgun for traping's only like $150-$250.

If only I had the cash to buy a goodkyak and use it a lot. One of the good cargo kyaks that can carry just about anything and go about anywhere on the lakes and rivers around here.

The housing dump sure put a cramp in everybody's lives. Fortunately for my family and a this region, we weren't really impacted, but the whole downturn in the economy since about 2001-2002 has really been hurting. (and no, it did NOT start in 06 or 07 like they say it did)

Well I do Shin Mugai Iiado and have for over 30 years, collect swords and knives ( though a large part of that was sold when the housing market dumped) Kayaking and fishing. Also use to shoot trap and target shooting although all the guns were also sold except for my 50 cal. smoke pole. Loved to go bird hunting but just don't have the time or money or guns for that  anymore. Now I'm hooked on this whole RC heli thingLaugh.

Bonsai trees.

Grow for thousands of years, and they still never get more than two feet high and two inches around.

The only thing in this world more labor intensive and requiring more maintenance than a primadona actress/model/high school "high class" girl.

Update:

Wow, Henry just had a commercial on the History Channel with a guy throwing out everything made anywhere other than the US, except for his Henry, with a bright, gleaming, gold/brass-leaf "Henry Rifles-Made in America" on the barrel.

I have their Eagle Scout rifle, and man is that thing fun! Just move the action, and pull the trigger, and repeat. It just is as smooth as silk, and handles excelently.

I think it's about the only thing I own that is smoother handling than my s102 and a couple of my lionel trains.

yeah, whatever the rounds were that you can shoot in .357

m1903's not bad at all, the marlin 30/30's not bad, .22's are nothing, but shotguns and pistols just plain suck.

Something else is the GEHA, being a rebuilt Gewer 98 Mauser, (that's a history lesson and a half…) kicks like a mule. Should probably get it bored to 2 3/4, but they've been known to break their stocks.

(Long story short, the thing's an obsolete German 2 5/8 bore. After WWI, they had thousands of Mauser rifles that they had to get rid of under the treaty of Versais, but somebody found out that Shotguns weren't in their quota of "weapons wich could serve a millitary purpose." So, they took the barrel off, and bored out the reciever, then re-heat treated them. Then, in WWII, one of my pap's coworkers had been serving in the European campaign, and took it home as a souvenier. Then, when my Grandfather and him were working on the Pensilyvania Railroad, (as MOW workers) he needed to hitch a ride from my pap, and when they got there, it was sitting in the trash. So, the guy figured it was better not to fight with the old lady, so he just gave it to my pap.)

You mean .38 Special, I'm sure... And yeah, it's a bad idea to shoot without hearing protection. I was sighting in the scope on my Mosin a couple weeks ago. I got too focused on making adjustments and forgot to put my plugs back in. Surprised I'd like to say that I'll only make that mistake once, but I'm absent-minded enough that I can't guarantee it.

Geeze! Did he have non dairy creamer in the powder or something?????? Lol.

Nah, just a relatively short barrel, which doesn't always give enough time to burn all of the powder before it leaves the muzzle. It just seems a little more dramatic when that instant is captured. Smile

My grandfather's the one in the family with the guns, esp after my uncle passed away. The main rifles are his 1903, and the Marlin that my grandma used when she was younger. Theres a bunch of other stuff we never use, and unfortunatly, I'm right handed, but I'm left eyed, so I suck at shotguns and pistols. Can't hit ANYTHING to save my life. Good enough to get the job done with a rifle, but not some superstar. The worst is the time I hit 1/5 shots with his GEHA Shotgun... with a 50gal drum as the target 20 feet away. I just SUCK at shotties. Pistols, I line it up accidentally to the left, and allways shoot 5-10 degrees left. Next time, I'll try lefty, and see how that goes...

Aw, it just plain SUCKS. It'd be alright if you needed to stop a robber with one shot, but my ears were ringing for half an hour later!!! The shockwave even whaps you in the face, but my pap got the worst of that off to the right behind me. He really got slapped!

One of the best carbine light hunting rifles out there!

That was my nephew's first gun. His second was the blonde-stock Mosin-Nagant M38 slightly to the left. That one is featured in his Facebook profile pic. Image Enlarger

Nothing beats the 1903 springfield. Heck, nothing comes anywhere close! And with a 1200 yard SIGHTED range, and about 1400 yard effective range in well trained hands, nothing can! (lets see... 3600 feet, and 5280 in a mile... that's sighted for about 68% of a mile! Granted a Barret .50 cal is needed for a mile shot, that's not too shabby!)

@SF I was reading in one of these day-by-day calanders of stupid things people've done, and one of them was a preist was offering $100 for any firearm turned in. One guy went to a gunshop, bought a $40 pistol, traded it in, and used the money as the down payment on an assult rifle.

Not getting into politics, but people here are sooo paranoid that the president is going to eliminate guns, but you have to face the fact that he's loosened some of the knots, like getting rid of the policy of no guns on National Park Service land/in their buildings.

If only they would review the truth about teflon bullets and realize it was all the media faking how the coating made them "more deadly" even though it only decreased barrel wear significantly. (it was the high-powered, hardened, steel jacketed rounds that were so deadly, not the coating put on them to keep them from destroying the guns)

That had to be a heartbreaker. We seem to be winning the fight against the gun-grabbers here in the 'States. Wisconsin recently became the 49th state to allow concealed carry. Unfortunately for me, I live in the only state in the union that doesn't. :p We're on that path, though. The Supreme Court confirmed what is written in plain English in the constitution, that "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" refers to an individual right.

They're not all mine, but a few are. This was a group photo at the start of a range trip.

Also, I am a big fan of board games. The board game world has a division similar to the toy-grade / hobby-grade RC world, and there are a lot of serious games that the vast majority of people just aren't aware of. If you want to dive into that pool, go look me up on boardgamegeek.com and I'll try to help you out. 😉

You are lucky to be able to own firearms-back in th 90,s a guy called Martin Bryant killed 35 people in Tasmania, all guns in Sydney and Australia had to be handed to police and they paid you for them, remember had a French rifle, think called a Gevarm, totally rebuilt it and with 4 other old riffles took them to the police station, got a paultry $750 for all of them.

One month later was called by police to where my registered Gevarm was as used in a robbery-Moral of the story-good people hand their guns in the baddies buy them from the underworld- Will never sought out nutters from killing people!
