Yeah, that S5 looks a LOT like the older S105, perhaps with the needed fixes and improvements to make the 105 into a really awesome little machine, just with the new, uh, "awesome" remote. Yeah, that's what we'll call it... "awesome"
But, uh, I think we know the route they're trying to take with some of the helis... like the bubblecopter (S107P--not sure why the P) and, uh, THIS! http://www.symatoys.com/produc...../1889.html
BEHOLD THE TERROR!!!
I seriously want to see some crazy far-out mods of that thing now. I KNOW it's not going to sell that well, and it'll be rather embarrassing to fly at first but come on, some sadistic modeling magic, and you've got an awesome, dark, flying battle stallion of DOOM, flown by some demonic Viking or something. (And no, I don't do drugs, I do engineering homework--has about the same effect on your sanity after a while)
In all seriousness, I do kinda like how they're making helis for younger and younger kids, promoting helis and moving up and up the ranks, eventually to their more and more serious helis like the newer F3-variant. Hope they keep it up! (As long as they ditch those "awesome" controllers)
Something else I just noticed--the S36, I need a refresher, is that a replacement of an older heli, or is that a new one? It's 3 CM longer and 7mm wider than the s107, with an awesome sauce flat black and matte silver color scheme, and 3ch. The coloration looks SWEET in their pics, excepting the fact that it really could use a FFG version, too. (Flat Foliage Green)
And even another post-posting thing I noticed is the F3 has an exposed drive gear, with no guards or anything around it, I'm guessing for weight. If I flew enough to warrant buying one, I'd take some styrene or a pop bottle and make a crude, lightweight guard for that. Also looks like the main frame is Chinese plastic, with toothpicks made out of more Chinese plastic for the landing gear. Don't want to be the downer here, but with how the plastics on the S107/S800g runners I've had perform, I wouldn't expect much out of it in a significant crash. Looks like they couldn't get enough lift, so they lightened out the rest of the heli to make up for the added weight of the 4ch design or the big, removable battery pack. (Which makes no sense since the F1 has all the stuff in place for 4 channel flight except the servo and gear on that side, and it has a traditional metal frame)
SF, Is Syma no longer using the "G" in their model numbers to signify
the gyroscope, since it seems all their latest models have the gyro
as a standard feature ? The S5 looks somewhat familiar !!
My new S32 (version 2.0 per Jam standard) has the gyro
and the factory model # is just that: S32 as opposed to
S032G on the last years model. Same heli with updated paint
scheme and no more wire antenna, review forthcoming!
There is now a 4 channel Syma heli like the F3 with 2.4 remote, and a 3 channel S5 let me know what you need next guys to review.
